THE AUSTRIAN INFUX.

Considerable interest is being taken in the alleged invasion of Auckland by Austrians. We referred last week to the action of the local authorities in Auckland to prevent the landing of some Austrian immigrants. The matter Has been taken up by the Australian Press with some warmth— the Sydney Daily Telegraph questioning the legality of the New Zealand Government's action in seeking to exclude Austrians from the Colony. The paper holds that the question is an international one to be treated with by the Austrian and British Governments. The Austrian consul at Auckland is up in arms too. He has communicated with his Government, with the result that he has received information by cable from Vienna that communication has been opened direct from Austria with the British Government regarding the question of the Austrian influx. Nothing definite, however, has yet resulted from the correspondence. Meanwhile, we learn by a Sydney cable that there are 100 more Austrian s in that city waiting shipment to New Zealand. The upshot of the complication is awaited with interest.
