TIM ARU.
CFrom our own correspondent.) The Government In«pe Jtor gave in his report on the Catholic schools of the district at the laso meeting of the S.C. Education Board. All the scho >X Wai mate, Titnaru. Kerry town, and Temuka, passed good examinations, and it was pleasing to note that the Inspector made special reference to the order and behaviour of the children at which he expressed himself as highly pleased. The appointment of Mr. John Fitzgerald of Arowhenua as Justice of the Peace has given much satisfaction here. Mr. Fitzgerald is widely known and respected throughout the district and should weir his new honour well. Mr. J. M. Twomey, editor and proprietor of the Tcmulta Lkulcv. has been called to the I7pper House. Mr. William Fitzgerald, late student of St. Patrick's College. Wellington, has secured an appointment in the Public Works Department, and left to commence his duties during the week. Mr Fitzgerald and his violin will be greatly missed at future local entertainments, as he has always generously given his services on such occasions. The Aloysian Society held their usuil weekly meeting on Tuesday last. The Alnysian journal was read and contained original pipers from several of the members. The p-ip-r was keenly c iti''i--ed, and pronounced to be very encouraging l'»r the first number.
