CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, THAMES. (Thames Star, December 20 )
The breaking-up of the Convent High School took place in the schoolroom, in Willoughby street, last evening, a large number ol parents and children being present to witness tbe proceedings. The room was tastefully decorated for the occasion with evergreens, which added considerably to the effect produced, while along the walla waa arranged the work of some of the pupils of the school, on whom it reflected the greatest credit. Indeed, the general quality of the work exhibited was really excellent, and apoke much for the efficient manner in which the school is conducted by the Siaters of Mercy. The following are deserving of special mention: — Araacene cushions, Missea B Nicolai and Joyce ; mantle drapes, Miss E Ashby ; point lace work, Misses Murphy, Thorn, and A Garvey ; brackets, Misses Sullivan, Joyce, and M Garvey ; and a beautiful table cover, worked in Mount Mellick embroidery, by Miss Von Rotter.
The Rev Father O'Reilly, after expressing pleasure at being present once more at the annual breakinp-np, reviewed the work done during the year, and spoke in complimentary terms of the progress made, and the attentivenesa of the children to their studies.
The following programme was gone through during the evening, each item being well received : — Duet, " Indies waltz," Misses McDonald and Garvey ; address, Miss Sullivan ; fairy freaka, junior children; duet and chorus, "Come o'er the moonlit sea"; duet, " Caprerx," Mißses Ashby, Walsh, A Garvey an 1 McDonald ; recitation, "Grandpa's spectacles," Miss McPika : duet, "Merry sleigh bells," Misses Thorn, E McDonald, Williams and Sullivan ; solo and chorus, " Let ub gather bright flowers " ; duet, "La Bjmpatbie,'' Misses Aahby and Walsh ; duet, " Wishing cap," Misses Boyle, Walsh, A McDonald and Master Walsh ; recitation, "A boy about the place," Master Goldenstedt ; duet, " Cherry ripe," Missea Sullivan, A Garvy, Walsh and Ashby ; recitation "Two travellers," Miss Joyce ; duet, " Le Tourbillou," Misses McDonald and Garvey ; chorue, " All hail Zealandia."
The Rev Father O'Re'lly wished the children a pleasant time during tbe vacation, and hoped that they would comn bjck to school with determined efforts to improve their education, and that the splendid instruction given in the convent would be taken full advantage of.
