On Thursday, 15th inst— Show Day in Wellington— a team representing " past " students of St Patrick's College tried conclusions with the " present." Mr Ward captained the former, while Rev Father Mahony filled a like position for the latter. Play commenced shortly before 11 o'clock. Mr Ward won the toss and elected to bat. Father Mabony'd bowling proved very destructive and all were dismissed for the small total of 48. Mr M. Orombie and Mr D. Burnes alone reaching double figures. The " present '' sent in Barber and Naaghton to face the bowling of Burnes and Kelly, and these two kept possession of the wickets until the luncheoa adjournment at 12 45, the score standing at 60. Play being resumed. Hickson immediately dismissed Naughton, and tho wickets then fell faster. Rev Father Mahony gave a valuable contribution of 37 in which there were only four singles, and later on bis brother George put up 17. The " present " were not got rid of until the total had reached 150. The " old bojs "in a minority of 102, commenced their second innings with a determination to at least prevent a one innings' defeat, but their efforts were not crowned with success. The total r, ached only 61, to which Burnes contributed 12, Ktlly 16, and Hicks. n 10. The "present" thua won by an innings and 41 mnß. Ihe "old boys" were entertained at luncheon in the college* and the Very Rev Rector took occasion to express the hope that there would be many such gatherings in tht future.
