During the past few weeks builders have been busy in making gome much-needed additions to the presbytery, and before long a decent structure will have replaced the dilapidated " lean-to " which haß so long defaced our parochial house.

The ceremony of the Forty Hours' Adoration will be commenced ac St Patrick's on Sunday next. Masses will be celebrated at 8 and 11 o'clock. At the former the members of the Sacred Hearc Association, of the Hibernian Society, and of the confraternities of the scapulars will approach the Most Bles3ed Sacrament. Solemn Vespers will be sung at 7 p.m., after which the Very Ray Dr Watters of St Patrick's College, Wellington, will preach.

Heavy rains which have fallen throughout the valley during the last few nights, have proved extremely gratifying to farmers.

The "swagger nuisance " bids fair to be speedily abolished throughout this provinc, if the restrictive measures adopted by leading station-owners prova successful. Notices decidedly unaccommodating to the fraternity have been inserted in the local papers — the immediate cause of the proclamations being the burglariou ß entrance wmch was made some time ago into the kitchen of a Mr Morrison cf Branc>peth by some hungry wayfarers in qiest of food.

R'V Mr Yorke, incumbent of St Jlatt law's (Anglican) churcht has just adminis'erei a severe snub to local Wesleyans in declining to atten 1 a ncent commemorative service held hero by them, on hQ ground of his scrupulous aversion to sibismaticf. Mr Duktg (Wtsleyan) in his reply has shed a lustrous halo round his flock as the purifiers of the social system O tempora !
