The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile: Aoenct Co., Limited report for week coding January 4, as follows :— Store Oattle — For the few offering there are buyers in the market still, who, however, are not so eager to give the price now thßt they would have given a little earlier, at the same time any sales that are being effected at very full pricas compared with those obtaining for fat cattle at Burnside Store Bheep — A moderate amount of business passing in these, and no difficulty experienced in securing buyers for all offering when sellers are disposed to accept fair market values. Good crossbred wethers and ewes command good attention, and so have aged soundmouthed good merino ewes, indeed there is a very good demand for all sorts in marketable condition. Wool— We are without any further advices with regard to the feeling of the market at Home since the close of the last series. The aeound series of local sales will commeace on Thursday, the 12th inst, punctually at 1C o'clock. Sheepskins — Owing to the holidays last week our regular auction ■ale was held on Friday instead of Tuesday. Country dry croasbreds inferior to medium, Is 7d to 3* ; inferior to medium merinos, Is 6d to 2s lid ; full-woolled croesbreds. 4s to 6s 3d ; do do merino, 3s Id to 5s 3d ; dry pelte, 4d to Is 4d ; green crossbred pelts, best, Is 4d to Is 6d ; others, lOi to Is Id ; lambskins, Is 5d to Is 91 each. Rabbitskins — Odd consignments of suckers, esmmer skins, and mixed inferior sorts continue to arrive, which are sold at the regular weekly auction sales, but for such low prices have to be accepted though at the same time relatively higher than those paid for really good skios. Suckers and half-grown, 3d to 5d ; inferior and mixed, 6d to 7d ; summer, 7d to 8d ; spring saved, 9d to lid per lb. Hides — There has been no alteration in values for some considerable period, the demand also continues steady, consignments being readily placed at the following rates :— Good to best coming to hand, 2d to 2si ; extra heavy, 2jd to 3d ; medium, l^d to If d ; inferior to medium, Id to l^d per Id. Tallow — A moderate business is being done in this at about equal to late quotations, viz, for best rendered mutton, 19a to 20s 6d ; medium to good, 16s to 18s 6d ; inferior, 13s 6d to 15s 6d. Bough fat, best fresh mutton caul, 12s 9d to 13s 6d ; inferior to medium and good, 9s 6d to 12? 6d per lb. Grain— Wheat : Late cablegrams from Home are of a slightly more reassuring character, and record a firmer tone prevailing, though values are without material alterations. Best milling free from aprout, 2s 9<i to 3a ; medium to good, 2s 4d to 2a 8d ; inferior and fowta' wheat, 2s to 2s 3d ; broken, Is 6d to Is lOd, ex store, sacks weighed in. terms. — Oats: A steady demand exists for these and no difficulty experienced in placing the few that now come forward at late quotations. The market is comparatively bare of stocks. Prices may not further rise, but with the present demand all on hand at the moment will be placed before the new are available. We quote — Prime feed and milling, Is lOd to Is lid ; medium to good, Is 9d to Is 9^d ; inferior to medium, Is 8d to Is 9<l, ex store, sacks extra, net. —Barley : There are no stocks now in first hinds, and no business of any consequence is likely to be done before the new crop is to hand. Quotations nominal. Best malting, 3s 9d to 4a ; medium to good 3s to 3s 6i ; feed and milling, 2s 3d to 2s 9d, ex store, sacks extra, terms. Grass Seed — There is no improvement to note just yet in the demand. Beßt ryegrass is held for 3a 9d to 4s ; medium to good, 2s 9d to 3a 6d. Cocksfoot has no attention at present. Quotations nominal ; say for best dressed 3£d to 3fd ; medium, 2d to 3d per lb. Potatoes— Well grown kidneys have a fair demand, locally grown more especially, which are worth L 6 10s to LB, while northern are difficult to place at from L 5 to L 6 per ton in email quantities.

Chaff— The supply is equal to the consumption, which at the moment ia limited, prices in consequence show but little difference, and are for best cut, bright haavy chaff, 50* to 52s 61 ; extra prime, on occasions, a shade more ; medium, 42s 6d to 47s 6d ; inferior and discoloured 30s to 40s per ton, ex truck. Dairy Produce— Prime keg butter, dairy-made, is in demand, and would fetch 81 to 9d ; factory-made, lOd to lid per lb. Cheese hai some inquiry, but prices offered are lower than our quotations, which are — For factory, medium size, 4£d to 5d ; loaf-shape, s|d to s£d ; dairy-made, 2£d to tyi per lb. Flax — The tone of the market at Home continues quiet. The demand, fn consequence, ia only to a moderate extent. The sales effected are made at prices on a par with those quotel list, viz. — For superior bright and soft, from LlB 10s to Ll9 ; medium to good, Ll6 10a to LlB ; inferior to medium, Ll3 to Ll6 per ton.
