PERSONS WANTED

Whangarei. —On or about 17th instant, on warrant for theft of a diamond ring (recovered), value £SO, the property of Andrew Ernest Dobbs, 1 Cairnfield Road, James Newald, alias Newall, age fifty five, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes, clasped hands, heart, flower, and “ True Love,” &c., on right upper arm, heart, &c., on left forearm ; usually wears a blue suit and brown overcoat (no hat); erect gait. He boarded with complainant for about two months, but he disappeared on 17th instant after which it was discovered that the ring had been stolen. It was subsequently recovered from a secondhand dealer to whom it had been sold by offender. (See Police Gazette, 1933, page 546, and Photographs, 1930, P g } /&/

Auckland. — l3th April last, on warrant for a breach of his probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Frank Scott, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 201.) He has failed to report to a Probation Officer.

Auckland. 22nd instant, that he be located and interviewed regarding his ability to pay £163 15s. lOd. balance of arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his five children in the care of the Education Department, John Petley, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, fair complexion, fair hair turning grey, blue eyes, scar above left eye and on left thumb and forefinger, two left toes missing. Auckland.— Jellicoe Kitchener Hill, failing to maintain ( (see Police Gazette, 1944, page 519), is identical with Albert J. Hill who left this Dominion on 3rd February last as a member of the crew of the ship “ Port Darwin.”

Auckland. — March last, on warrant for unlawfully leaving a place of isolation (Police Offences Emergency Regulations), Maureen Mabel Stichbury, age twenty-seven, height 6 ft. in., factory hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. Auckland. —7th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Joyce Brenda Berkahn, care of Clarendon Hotel, Wakefield Street, Hector Eric Berkahn, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., linoleum-layer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, grey hair, brown eyes. Lower Hutt.-About the 10th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a wheelbarrow (recovered), value £9 10s., the property of Frank Lynch, 73 Oxford Terrace, Edmond Norman Connolly, alias Jackson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 784, and Photographs, 1937, page 46; untidy appearance ; usually wears a grey suit. About 12th May last complainant loaned him the wheelbarrow, and on 9th instant it was found in possession of two drainlayers who stated that they purchased it from offender for £3 about the 10th ultimo.' Lower Hutt.—2oth instant, on warrant for theft of the articles described below, value £6, from a hut in Trentham Military Camp, the property of Trevor Arthur Withers and another— Clifton Halliday, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 155, and Photographs, 1942, page 53 ; wearing military uniform. (2) Francis Rui Gay, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 295, and Photographs, 1940, page 3. Description : A military greatcoat; a pair of khaki trousers ; a khaki shirt; a safety-razor ; and a shaving-brush and soap. When the offence was committed they were in possession of a motor-car which had been unlawfully converted, but it was subsequently recovered at Te Marua, Upper Hutt, and they are now believed to be in possession of the followingdescribed motor-car, value £3OO, the property of Morris Fossey, 136 The Terrace, Wellington, which was stolen from Te Marua about the same time : A brown 1939 model Austin 8, pressed steel wheels, Dunlop tires, left front door window broken, registration-plates No. 26,622.
