SPECIAL NOTICE
Auckland.— John Leslie Florance and Herbert Lorraine Woodham, attempted murder, &c. (see Police Gazette, 1944, page 609) : At about 9.40 a.m. on 25th instant Two Men were seen by a constable from Wellington South sitting before a fire at the rear portion of the shop of Star Stores, Ltd., 119 Riddiford Street, Newtown, which is managed by Woodham’s sister. He recognized one of the men as Woodham and the other man answered the description of Florance. The constable left the shop and went for assistance, but when a party of police arrived at the shop, shortly after, the men had disappeared. Woodham was wearing a rusty-brown tweed suit with lighter brown stripes forming squares about 1 in. wide, and the other man is described as about 5 ft. 6 in. in height, thin build, sallow complexion, thin face and nose, heavy dark eyebrows, and of Syrian appearance ; wearing a navy-blue suit with pin stripes and dark-grey felt hat. Later advice from Auckland states that — On 26th instant a warrant was issued charging Leslie John Florance as follows: “On 11th August, 1944, at Auckland, did attempt to murder one Richard William Meyer.” (2) On 26th instant a warrant was issued charging Henry Lorraine Woodham as follows: “On Ist August, 1944, at Auckland, did commit a breach of his probation (Crimes Amendment Act, 1910), in that he failed to report to a Probation Officer, failed to notify his intention to change his address, and also failed to notify his intention to leave the Auckland District.” . k/'o/u
