PROPERTY STOLEN.
Auckland. —3rd ultimo, from the dwelling of DONALD FRAZER POAD, 1 London Street, Ponsonby, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold Swiss wristlet- square in shape with rounded corners and round white dial, gold-coloured Arabic numerals, winding-stem bent, leather wrist-strap; value, £2 2s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), who was discovered in the house about 3 a.m. on the 4th ultimo, age about thirty, of medium height and build, fair complexion; shabbily dressed.
Auckland. Between October, 1939, and July last, the property of CHARLES REILLY, 111 Nelson Street, a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch with gold-coloured dial, Roman numerals, gold wristlet; a ladies’ gold wristlet-watch with white dial, Arabic numerals, gold wristlet; and a diamond-shaped gold brooch about 2 in. long and 1 in. wide, set with a moonstone in centre and pearls around edge total value, £25. Identifiable.
Auckland. —l2th ultimo, from a room in the Star Hotel, Newton, the property of DAWN RAINBOW, a ladies’ gold hexagon-shaped Swiss wristlet-watch with round white dial, No. 343370, Arabic numerals, “ 3851 ” scratched on inside of back case, gold expanding -wristlet two springs of which are broken; value, £lO. Identifiable.
Auckland. or 25th August last, from a motor-car, the property of JEAN MARGARET ALLEN GREVILLE, 39 Burwood Crescent, Remuera, a ladies’ brown smoothskinned fur coat with darker brown vertical fur streaks, “ German Marmot ” on inside of skins, large roll collar of slightly lighter shade, elbows slightly worn, purchased from Mutual Furs, Ltd., Dunedin; and a two-gallon galvanizediron petrol - container, “ Shell ” brand on it; total value, £2O Bs. 6d. Identifiable. Complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from Ponsonby Road on the 24th August last, and when it was recovered next day in Bangor Street, Point Chevalier, the property described had been stolen.
Auckland. —l9th September last, from a motor-car, the property of JUSTINE FULLER WILLIAMS, 95 Scaview Road, Remuera, a six-valve Yale motor-car radio, about 12 in. by 6 in. by 6 in., brown suede finish, serial No. 1600 stamped under chassis; a radio speaker of brown suede finish in 9 in. square box ; a magnetic compass in round nickel hunting case, 1£ in. in diameter, luminous dial, stamped “ British make ; deer antler, about 12 in. long, no points ; a packet of fifty -22 calibre Peters cartridges; and a packet of fifty •22 calibre short Remington Kleanbore cartridges; total value, £25 12s. Identifiable except cartridges. Complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from Elliott Street, and when it was recovered in Target Road, Point Chevalier, on the 22nd September last, the property described had been stolen.
Auckland.— l2th or 13th ultimo, from a shed at a building in the course of construction, The Strand,- Parnell, the property of EDWARD HENNESSY, a Datum dumpy level, 3 in. circular black metal base with four adjusting-screws fitted in it, sighting-tube fixed internally on top of base, adjustable nickel screw on right side; value, £ls. Identifiable. Vivian Sydney Harvey, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 884, and Photographs, page 44, admitted being in the locality about the time the offence was committed, but he denied this offence.
Auckland. —3rd ultimo, from a wash-room in Hardies Factory, Penrose, the property of ROBERT OAKMAN, 21 Sunnybrae Crescent, Westmere, a gentlemen’s stainless steel Buren wristlet-watch, about 1 in. long and J in. wide, Arabic luminous numerals, “ R. Oakman ” on back case, silver bracelet; value, £B. Identifiable.
Auckland. 2oth September last, from a motor-car, the property of DR. WILLIAM CLAUDE HORTON, 59 St. Helier’s Bay Road, a stethoscope, Arnolds or Holborn Surgical Instruments make; and twelve tubes of hypodermis tabloids, Park Davies brand, in leather case about size of 2 oz. tobaccotin ; total value, £3. Stethoscope identifiable. Complainant’s motor-car, value £4OO, was unlawfully removed from Rawenga Road, and it was recovered the next day in Curran Street extension, Herne Bay, in possession of the following-described Two Youths, but the stethoscope and tabloids had been stolen Age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, thin features ; wearing a navy-blue suit (no hat). (2) Age about eighteen, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build, dark hair, prominent forehead. They were arrested for the offence, but succeeded in escaping, the second-described youth having escaped while handcuffed.
Te Kuiti.—Between the 3rd and 15th April last, from' a shed at Mangapehi, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Mines Department), 100 yd. of four-core electric trailing C.T.S. rubber flex on spool, three-point A.S.E. plug on one end ; value, £4O. Identification doubtful.
Palmerston North. —During the night of 17th ultimo, an office at the MASSEY AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE, Fitzherbert West, was broken into and the following stolen: £2O 15s. 9d. in money; £1 3s. 6d. in postal-notes ; a moneyorder telegram for £3, No. 813, dated 11th October, 1940; a money-order telegram for £2 7s. 6d., No. 611, dated 15th October, 1940 (each in favour of Massey Agricultural College); a money-order telegram for 10s., No. 1224, in favour of Principal, Massey College, dated 14th October, 1940; a cheque, No. 3D013077, for 10s. 6d., drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Dargaville, by Matty Peko; a cheque, No. L. 836475, for 10s., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, by J. H. Torlesse, dated 14th October, 1940; a cheque, No. A. 310571, for £1 os. 6d., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Eltham, by J. Madden, dated 14th October, 1940; a cheque, No. 075225, for £1 10s. 6d., drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Feilding, by H. M. Dudding, dated 15th October, 1940; a cheque, No. D. 490946, for ss. 6d., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Dannevirke, by S. H. Thompson, dated 14th October, 1940 ; and a cheque, No. 434623, for £3 17s. 4d., drawn on the Reserve Bank, Wellington, by J. Bovis, dated 14th October, 1940 (all cheques in favour of Massey College); total value, £35 11s. Identifiable except money.
Palmerston North. the 14th September last the dwelling of TOM HENRI BRAGG, 849 Main Street, was broken into and the following stolen: an 18 ct. gold halfhoop ring set with five diamonds which diminish in size from middle to edges, platinum claw setting ; value, £2O. Identifiable ; and about £2 10s. in money.
Wellington. —l4th ultimo, from a dwelling at 335 The Terrace, the property of NGAIRE APLIN, a silver fox fur, single skin, bushy tail, large head with bright blue eyes, no lining ; value, £22 Is. Identifiable.
Wellington. —l2th ultimo, from a rifle-range, 98 Courtenay Place, the property of ANGUS DUNCAN, a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle y No. 64646 ; value, £5. '£&c,v<A>C,
Wellington. of GLADYS HORNEMAN, Cambridge Hotel building, a ladies’ brown musquash fur coat, skins run diagonally from centre to each side, large dark-brown collar, fully lined with brown embossed material, two large brown composition buttons, skins on one shoulder coming apart at seam, “ Fur Tailors ”on tag on inside pocket; value, £45. Identifiable.
Christchurch. —20th August last, from the Addington Racecourse, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a -303 calibre Short Magazine Lee Enfield Service rifle, body, bolt, and barrel No. K. 5690, command No. S. 1923, unit No. C.Y. 183; value about £5. Identifiable.
