Auckland. — May last, from the People’s Palace, the property of CLAUDE HAMILTON WATT, 25 Edinburgh Street, Newton, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold Elgin hunting pocket watch, Roman numerals, engine-turned case, “C. Watt ” scratched on back case; and a gentlemen’s heavy fetter and oval watch-chain with a small gold horseshoe pendant which is set with a red stone; total value, £5 ss. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Between the 10th and 13th May last, from a shed at Orakei, the property of THOMAS GRAY SLATER and others, a canvas tool-kit, branded “ T.S.” ; two Disston saws; and a ratchet brace, all branded “T. Slater ” ; a canvas saw-bag, branded “ 8.M.A.” ; a Rabone spirit level, branded “G. Stewart ” ; a Cheney hammer, branded “J. Rotorua. —19th April last, the property of EDWARD THOMAS THEOBALD, soldier, Papakura Military Camp, a gentlemen’s silver-plated wristlet watch, “ Amphibia ” on dial, “ E. Theo, 1936 ” engraved on inside case, silver wristband ; value, £7. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached tq Jack Sloane, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. At the time of the offence complainant was employed at Wai Ora Forestry Camp, Kaingaroa, and he gave suspect, who was also an employee there, the watch to have it repaired in Rotorua. Sloane was seen wearing the watch in Rotorua, and he has since disappeared. Ho is believed to be identical with John Patrick Hardy, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 476, and Photographs, 1938, page 88, Amimdi nj^HDStratford. Between the 6th and 14th May last, from a motor-car in Fenton Street West, the property of ROBERT GEORGE LAMPLOUGH, Broadway, a six-volt Clipper battery, No. 29945, model C. 13, “ Solarc ” in white paint on side ; value, £4. Wanganui. March last, from the dwelling of WALLACE McNABB, 30 Hipango Terrace, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting Rolex watch, about twenty-five years old, engine-turned case, Roman numerals, inside front case discoloured; value, £4 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Benjamin Oswald Jefferson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 595. He attended a party at complainant’s home and was alone in the room from where the watch was stolen. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Featherston. — Between October, 1939, and March last, from the District High School, the property of the WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD, an Imperial typewriter, late model, No. 8545 ; value, £3O. Identifiable.

Wellington. Between the 30th April and 19th May last, the property of BRENDA POWNALL, 43 Matai Road, a ladies’ gold Baume wristlet watch with gold expanding wristlet, No. 469215 ; and a ladies’ gold Zealandic wristlet watch, “ 8.M.P., 1934 ” engraved on inside of back case ; total value, £7. Identifiable. , Wellington.— During the night of 14th ultimo, the shop of HALLENSTEIN BROS., 276 Lambton Quay, was broken into and the following stolen: £4l in money, made up of £5, £l, and 10s. notes ; a money-order telegram for £4 in favour of Wyn Brake, Coromandel Street, payable at Wellington South Post-office, sent by L. H. Brake, New Plymouth ; and a cheque for £B, No. P. 189550, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand in favour of “ Cash,” and signed “G. P. Avery ” ; total value, £53. Cheque and moneyorder identifiable.

Wellington.— On the 4th May last, the dwelling of ALBERT JOHN COLLINS and others, 135 Ghuznee Street, was broken into and the following stolen: Two brown leatherette suit-cases, about 36 in. long; a brown leatherette suit-case, about 38 in. long; eleven pairs of double white linen sheets, five pairs are John Noble’s, England, and six pairs D.1.C.; twelve pairs of white bath-towels, blue borders ; a red square bath-mat; twelve pairs of tea-towels, some with red squares ; four white linen tablecloths ; three white linen supper-cloths; three cushion-coversone brown, one yellow, and the other paintings on them ; three pairs of silk stockings; six white table-napkins; six stainless dessert-knives, curved handles ; and six stainless dessertforks, Sheffield make ; a large white beach-towel with photograph of father, mother, and eight sons wrapped inside; five shirts, mostly blue and fawn, size 17, may have D.I.C. brand ; six pairs of socks; six assorted ties; four pairs of white pillow-cases ; £9 10s. in money ; two shirts, one navyblue and the other green ; a green woollen bed-jacket; two ladies’ woollen jerseys, one blue and the other white; a pair of green slacks ; a lemon-coloured satin evening frock ; two sets of ladies’ green pyjamas ; a pink nightdress ; three sets of ladies’ underclothing; some Centennial Exhibition souvenirs including an ash-tray with “ Isabell ”on it; and a gentlemen’s double-breasted dark-brown herringbone tweed overcoat with light-brown stripes, fit man 5 ft. 8 in., halflined with dark-brown satin which is torn at seam on left arm near shoulder, “ Don Tailors ”on inside pocket; total value, £57. Hokitika.— lst February last, from a motor-lorry between Copland and Bruce Bay, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department), a case of Noble’s gelignite, Class 111, Division 1 ; value, £4 2s. 6d. Timaru.— During the night of 30th ultimo, the office of the UNION STEAM SHIP CO., Strathallan Street, was broken into, an attempt made to open the strong-room by means of an acetone plant, and £1 in money stolen from an office drawer. The acetone plant mentioned was stolen from a shed on the wharf, the property of Edwin Stanley Brooks. This shed had been broken into about the same time, and the plant was conveyed to the Union Steam Ship Co.’s premises in a motor-car which had been unlawfully removed from Scfton Street about 9 p.m. on the 30th ultimo. Money to the amount of 2s. 6d. was also stolen from the office of Turnbull and Co. which is in the same building. The acetone plant and motor-car were abandoned at the scene of the crime.

Invercargill. —During the night of the 27th ultimo, the shop of WILLIAM STEWART, chemist, Dee Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A black Kodak Retina camera with coupled range-finder, chromium finish, No. 269608, Compur Rapid f. 3.5; a Keystone 8 mm. Cine camera, f. 2-7, crackle-finish in grey, No. 893166; a Keystone 8 mm. projector, 200 watt lamp ; and a black bakelite Western Electric photo-meter with white dial, circular glass in back ; total value, £59 17s. 6d.
