PROPERTY STOLEN.

Ponsonby. 26th February last, from clothing in a cubicle at the Shelly Beach Baths, the property of GEORGE JAMES ELLIOTT, 13 Chamberlain Street, Grey Lynn, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong Swiss wristlet-watch, Arabic numerals, scratch across back, chromium-plated wrist-band of chain design, about J in. wide, attached; value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —17th March last, from clothing in a cubicle at the tepid baths, the property of WALTER SEYMOUR, 4 Churchton Street, Parnell, a gentlemen’s nickel cushionshaped 15-jewel wristlet-watch, “2401” on outside back case, unbreakable glass, Arabic numerals; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —10th or 11th ultimo, from a drawer in a bedroom of the Central Hotel, Victoria Street, the property of NELL MOWBRAY HERD, 46 Messines Road, Wellington, a black handbag ; and a motor-car key (recovered); a cheque-book on the National Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, containing twenty-two forms, Nos. P. 185547 to P. 185568; registration papers for an Austin Seven motorcar, 1938-39 registration No. 127-328, in complainant’s name ; and 18s. in money : total value, £2 15s. On the 11th ultimo the recovered property was found in a lavatory in the Paramount Billiard-rooms, Queen Street. Terence Andrew William Flatley, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 324, who has admitted similar offences, has been interviewed regarding this offence, but no evidence resulted. Stratford. 2oth ultimo, from the Defence Hall, the property of PIKO HAWKINS, Waitara Hotel, a gentlemen’s double-breasted heavy fawn teddy bear overcoat, “ Minster ” tag on inside pocket, full belt, vent in back with 2 in. tear at top which has been mended; fit man about 5 ft. 9 in., value, £B. Identifiable.

Waipukurau. —During the night of the 27th ultimo, the shop of YATES CASH STORES, Ruataniwha Street, was broken into and the following stolen : £7 10s. in money; a cheque on the Bank of New South Wales, Palmerston North, for £l6, drawn on the estate of J. McCoskery, in favour of Mrs. McCoskery; a cheque for £3 18s. 6d. on the Bank of New South Wales, in favour of Yates Cash Stores, signed H. K. Hutchinson, dated 27/5/39 ; a cheque for £5, drawn in favour of B. Patterson on account of Hatuma School Committee, No. E.D. 78294, dated 27/5/39 ; a cheque for 19s. lOd. on the Bank of New Zealand, Hastings, in favour of B. Patterson, on account of Heretaunga Dairy Co., dated 19/5/39 or 20/5/39 ; a cheque for £4 on the Bank of New Zealand, Waipukurau, No. 756614, payable to “ Cash,” on account of N. H. Tate, dated 25/5/39 ; and an open cheque for £1 10s. on the Bank of New Zealand, Waipukurau, No. 757469, on account of A. T. Russell, dated 27/5/1939. The safe was opened by means of explosives, and footprints indicate that TWO Men were associated in the commission of the offence —-one wore shoes or boots with pointed toes and round rubber heels with six-pointed star in centre, size about 8 or 9 ; the other man wore shoes or boots with blunt toes, size about 8, square heels with rubber tip across back of heel, and toe-plate about 1 in. wide.

Petone. 2sth March last, the property of CECIL FREDERICK MAULE, 5 Market Street, Lower Hutt, a brown leather well-worn kit-bag, 22 in. by 12 in. by 12 in., nickel lock in centre, nickel fastener at each end, containing a Stanley steel smoothing - plane, 11 in. long, “ C.F.M.” scratched on side ; an iron rabbet-plane, 7 in. long, “ 120 ” stamped on it; a ratchet screwdriver, 20 in. long, red wooden handle, “ Henry Boker ”on it; a nickel ball-bearing brace, “ Sampson ”on it; a brown canvas roll, containing assorted bits, sizes from £ in. to 1 in.; and a claw hammer; oilstone ; carpenter’s apron, &c. : total value, £4 4s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, lightbrown hair; wearing a green pullover with V-shaped neck, and a medium brown sports coat. He was seen to remove the property described from the rear carrier of a bus while it was stationary near the Petone railway crossing.

Wellington. —22nd April last, from a cabin on the ship “ Dominion Monarch,” the property of GEORGE FRANCIS IRWAN, 6 Lucas Road, High Wycombe, Bucks, England, a chromium-plated travelling alarm-clock, 5 in. square, hinged leg support at back; a black Kodak Junior folding camera, size 620 film on which there are six exposures; and a pair of old non-prismatic Zeiss field-glasses with scratches on them, 6x 30 magnification, separate eye-focus adjusters, contained in black leather case : total value, £2O 10s. Identifiable except clock.

Wellington. —2sth April last, from a motor-car outside 26 Tinakori Road, the property of GEORGE HENRY ALLINGHAM, a black leather Leica camera. No. 199657, 3-5 lens, four screws on top, range-finder, contained in brown leather case; fourteen metal containers for films; and a leatherette attache-case: total value, £SO 17s. 6d. Identifiable except case.

Wellington. —2nd ultimo, from a lobby in the Diocesan Hall, Mulgrave Street, the property of JOSEPH SNELL, Chatsworth Road, Heretaunga, a gentlemen’s double-breasted fawn tweed overcoat with slightly deeper herringbone, fully lined with dull brown material, fit man 5 ft. 6 in., six fawn bone buttons, “ Made by Doherty, Tailor, Lambton Quay ” on tag inside breast pocket ; value, £lO 10s. Identifiable.

Timartt.— During the night of 26th April last, from a room in the Pareora Freezing-works Boardinghouse, the property of LEONARD MURRAY, a gentlemen’s gold square wristlet-watch, Arabic luminous numerals, luminous hands, made by Griffiths, and purchased in Melbourne, gold expanding bracelet attached ; value, £6 7s. 6d. Identifiable.

Dunedin. Between the 13th and 17th April last, from the mantle department of SARGOOD SON, AND EWEN, LTD., High Street, a ladies’ dark-brown northern musquash fur coat, self collar of similar material, 42 in. bust, 48 in. long, brown lining, “F. 88 ” stamped on inside of inside pocket and on skin under lining ; value, £35. Identifiable.

Dunedin. 23rd March last, from the Hillside Workshops, * the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), a J h.p. portable electric drill, Record No. 190, type U 1, made by Vidal England Co.; value, £l2. Identifiable.

Dunedin. 24th April last, from a lane leading to the rear of Gourley and Co., Clarke Street, the property of NOEL KEAN, 332 Rattray Street, a five-valve Pilot radio-set, serial No. 82174, Royalty No. C. 1518, model -103 X-, dual wave, lightly stained cabinet, mantel model; . value, £lO.
