Murder. Hastings. Joan Rose Rattray murdered (see Police Gazette, 1935, page 403) : When the child was last seen alive about 3 p.m. on the 2nd instant, she had in her possession a dark-blue pressed -fibre attache-case, size 8 in. by 6-1 in. by 3 in., reinforced corners, metal hand-grip, clasp in centre, may have name “Joan Rattray ” on it (identification doubtful), containing a Progressive Reader, Second Primer, “ Joan Rattray ” written on first page, also has coloured pencilmarks thereon (identifiable) : total value, about 2s. 6d. Special efforts are to be made to discover the attache-case and the Progressive Reader, and any information regarding them or the child is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Napier. / a' -j] 55;

Attempted Murder. Auckland. About 9.50 p.m. on the Bth instant, William Palmer, a Harbour Board employee, was cycling- from his home at 109 Orakei Road, Remuera, to go on duty at 10 p.m., and when passing the last boat-shed in Ngapipi Road and before reaching Waterfront Road, several shots were fired at him from a -38 calibre automatic pistol. None of the shots hit him. Just before being fired at Palmer saw on the righthand side of the road a motor-car which appeared to be a dark-coloured five-seater sedan. This car is believed to be identical with a car bearing a rear number-plate registration No. X. 21,054. Registration-plates of this number were issued to Tappenden Motors, Beach Road, on the Ist ultimo, and between then and 15th ultimo one of these plates was stolen. A sharp lookout is to be kept for a motor-car bearing a number-plate X. 21,054, and if located the driver is to be interviewed and the Superintendent of Police, Auckland, communicated with. Ammunition and possibly a firearm may be found in the car.

Arson. Kaitaia. About 11.30 p.m. on the 4th ultimo, the motorgarage of Thomas Curreen, carrier, Herekino, value £SO, and other goods, value £3 18s., were wilfully destroyed by fire. A motor-lorry, value £350, the property of Margaret Rhodesian Curreen and the Dominion Motors, Auckland, was also damaged in the fire to the extent of £9O. Any information regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Whangarei. !

Motorist Failing to Stop when Accident occurred. Palmerston North. —At 3.40 p.m. on the 27th ultimo, James Trevor a Morgan of 1 David Street, employed as a messenger for. the Snappy Delivery Service, Palmerston North, was riding a motor-cycle with a side-delivery box along Main Street from Terrace End towards the city. When passing between two stationary motor-cars a car approaching struck the right handle-bar and foot-rest of Morgan’s motor-cycle, and also his right leg and foot, seriously injuring him. The motor-car was a red Graham Paige fiveseater sedan, and did not stop. Inquiries are to be made for the owner of this car, and any information obtained is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Palmerston North.
