He is believed to be identical with Charles Sherman, referred to in Police Gazette, / 1919, page 261, and Photographs, page 32 : (3) ..Man (name unknown), age about forty, height 5 ft. Ilf in., slight fair complexion, long fair hair brushed back, sharp features; dressed in a blue suit (no hat). Complainant, Warneford Johnstone, farmer, Mercer, was induced by the accused to put £4OO on a racehorse (Cadland) which was to run at Bulls on the 6th instant. Complainant gave to Man (name unknown), described above, a cheque for £4OO on the Union Bank of Australia, at which bank it was cashed and the sum of £4OO paid out in eighty £5 notes. Accused made an appointment to meet complainant later, but they have not been seen since. New Plymouth. —About the 23rd ultimo, on warrant for forgery, William George Andrew Bray, age forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair going bald, spot in white of right eye; may be wearing an old navy-blue suit, felt hat with snap brim, or a new brown check two-piece sports suit. ' Accused was residing with Mr. Webster, Paraiti Road, Bell Block, from whom he stole three cheques on the Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, Nos. 213414, 213418, and 213419, and forged the signature F. L. Webster to cheque No. 213418 for £4 10s., and uttered it to Sidney Roy Lovell, Devon Street. There are other charges pending.

New Plymouth. sth December last, on warrant for being a rogue and vagabond (imposing on a charitable institution with a view to obtaining benefit), John Graham, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and bushman, strong build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair; wearing a darkgrey tweed suit, light-coloured felt hat with brim turned up, and heavy tan boots. Accused obtained from Mr. Carr, secretary, North Taranaki Branch of the National War Funds Council, New Plymouth, an order for a pair of trousers and a pair of boots by falsely stating that his camp had been burned out at Awakino.

Between the 23rd and 24th July last, on warrant for breaking and entering the dwelling of Mary Bond and stealing goods, value £3B 10s., described in Police Gazette, 1934, page 427, Albert Locker, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and porter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes; flag, “ Amy and scroll on right upper arm; two hearts, arrow, and sailors’ grave on right forearm; butterfly, dagger, and woman’s head on left forearm ; wearing a maroon blazer with wide yellow stripes, wide brown trousers, and white shoes with tan trimmings. Ilf in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes, long nose, scar on body and on left upper arm; wearing light-grey trousers, black coat, and sand-shoes (no hat). Accused obtained board and lodgings, value £3 65., from Jane Reid Renwick, Kirk Street, by falsely representing that he had a farm at Eltham, a large Vauxhall motor-car, and that he had share-milkers on his farm. Blenheim. — August last, on warrant for false pretences, &. White, age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, scar on right forearm, on left ear, on right hip, and on right forefinger, drooped lower jaw; asthmatical; wearing a dark suit and brown felt hat. Accused obtained £5 from Bertie Hester, High Street, by falsely representing that he was employed by Havill and White, Palmerston North, and that he would have delivered to him six syrup jars. The jars were not delivered, and accused was not employed by Havill and White. The photograph of Sydney Gordon Billows, referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, page 152, and Photographs, 1918, page 17, has been identified as that of accused. There are other charges pending.
