SPECIAL NOTICE.
Body of Unknown Man found. Christchurch. — On the 30th ultimo, the dead body of a Man (name unknown) was found in a gully on the farm of James Bruce, Seafield. There was a small hole in the forehead, apparently made by a •22 calibre bullet, and probably self-inflicted. Lying across the body (with a -22 calibre cartridge-shell in the breech) was a -22 calibre single-shot Belgian or Continental rifle, No. 61993, bolt action, and fairly new in appearance. Description of deceased: Age about sixty, height 5 ft. 5f in., probably a labourer, medium build, grey hair, no teeth, scar above left knee, some wasting of flesh on left upper-arm, but not of recent date ; dressed in blue-grey dungaree trousers, fairly well - worn blue serge jacket and vest, grey flannel undershirt, khaki shirt, brown leather hob-nailed boots, about size 8, and brown woollen socks, and he had with him a brown heather-mixture homeknitted Balaclava, and a white-handled blade razor, marked “ A.D.8.” Any information concerning deceased or the rifle is to be communicated toJho-Shperintendjmt, of Police, Christchurch.
