Accused obtained £1 10s. cash and goods, value 18s. 2d., from Ernest Le Grice, grocer, 183 Victoria Street, by falsely representing that he had been authorized by H. Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —15th June last, for false pretences, Laurence Agnew, alias Laurie Agnew, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes. On the date mentioned a man, who is thought to be the above named, obtained sixteen 70 lb. bags of 1a sugar, value £l2 18s. Bd., from Bond and Bond, merchants, Commerce Street, by falsely representing that he was a carrier and as authorized by Mrs. G. Aston, Tuakau, to obtain the sugar on her behalf. He signed the invoice “G. Peterson.” At a later date a man of the same description obtained £3 10s. from a grocer by representing that he could supply half a ton of sugar which, however, fie failed to deliver.
