Auckland. —3rd ultimo, for theft of a watch (recovered) and a silver watch-chain, value £5 55., the property of Owen McGrath, motor man, 118 Greenlane Road, Con Albion, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 8|- in., stableman, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. The articles were stolen from complainant’s bedroom, and the watch was subsequently pledged at Kissin’s pawnshop for 15s. He has been interviewed by the Auckland police, but no evidence resulted. No warrant.

Accused obtained a pair of gentlemen’s black boots, size 8, “ The Matchless Shoe ” on tag, “ Carlyle Boot ” on sole ; a pair of gentlemen’s black boots, size 6, “ Flexile Brand, No. 654, I).I).,” on lining ; and a pair of girls’ tan brogues, size 13 ; total value, £5 9s. 6d. ; and £4 10s. 6d. cash, from Harry Reason, bootmaker, Victoria Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton.

Accused made application to the Department of Internal Affairs, Auckland, for a permit to leave New Zealand for Suva. In his application he falsely stated that he had no children, and that his wife, Lydia Violet Miller, was accompanying him. The woman whom he described as his wife, and who may be with him, is Lydia Violet Ord, who was formerly in his employ at the Sullivan Conservatorium of Music, Premier Buildings, Queen Street, Auckland. Accused has, in fact, two children, and his wife, Martha Johanna Miller, whose home is in Sydney, is at present in New Zealand searching for him. (See following paragraph.) 2-/
Wellington. —Bth July last, on warrant for obtaining by false representation a permit to leave New Zealand, Lydia Violet Ord, alias Miller, nee Tedder, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., secretary, native of England, dark complexion, chestnut hair, blue eyes. Accused made application to the Department of Internal Affairs, Auckland, for a permit to leave New Zealand for Fiji. In her application she falsely stated that her name was Lydia Violet Miller, and that Fred Reith Miller, referred to in preceding paragraph, was her husband. She obtained the permit on the Bth July last, and accompanied Miller to Fiji. During the beginning of last month she stayed at Silverstream, near Wellington, and obtained a passport to leave Auckland for America, China, Japan, &c., by the s.s. “ Riverina,” on the 13th ultimo, but it is not known for certain whether she left ijy that vessel or not. Brunnerton. 3oth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Jimmy Smith (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and drover, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in dark-grey trousers (no coat), and had in his possession two half-bred collies; a contortionist. Accused obtain ■ goods to the value of 12s. sd. from Mrs. McAlister, storekeeper, Te Kinga, by falsely representing that he was authorized to do so by complainant’s husband, Archie McAlister.
