Newton. —6th instant, for theft of a ladies’gold wristlet watch (recovered), value £l2 10s., the property of John Sullivan, licensee, Rising Sun Hotel, Harold Wilson (Dame probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height about sft. 9 in., strong build, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a fawn-tweed overcoat and a dark-fawn soft-felt shabby hat. Accused stole the watch from complainant’s bedroom, and pledged it at Jack Cohen’s pawnshop in Victoria Street. No warrant.

Newton.— loth ultimo, for theft of a pair of gentlemen’s glace-kid Derby boots, size 8, value £1 19s. 6d., identifiable, the property of S. H. Chambers and Sons, Karangahape Road, H. Dean (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build, dark ruddy complexion, dark hair, black eyes, clean-shaved, wrinkled face; usually dressed in a dark-grey suit and dark-felt hat. Accused, who tendered a valueless cheque for £5 in payment for the boots, stole them whilst complainant was absent at the bank with the cheque. No warrant.

Accused on above date was permitted to leave the institution to visit a dentist in Auckland. He should have returned on the same day, but failed to do so, and has disappeared. Gisborne. —2lst instant, for rape, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., Maori, stout build, copper complexion, black hair; wearing a grey overcoat and light-coloured soft - felt hat ; smart appearance. Whilst Joan Mountford, age fourteen, was walking along Roebuck Road, about 5.30 p.m., accused, who was driving a motorcar, accosted her, saying he was a constable, and asked why she did not have a light on her bicycle. He took her to an adjoining paddock, and after threatening to kill her, committed the offence. No Warrant.

Stratford. 24th ultimo, that he may be located and warned that if he does not comply with the conditions of his release upon probation he will be brought before the Court and sentenced, John Daniels, alias John Sullivan, alias Barney Douglas, alias Barney Sullivan, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of Canada, copper complexion, curly black hair, dark-brown eyes, two scars on left forearm, scar on left side of neck. Palmerston North. theft of an overcoat (recovered), value £5, the property of Thomas Keane, labourer, Patea, W. Phillips (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 6in., labourer, medium build, dark hair and complexion; dressed in light trousers and a dark-blue coat; fond of drink. Accused stole the coat from a bedroom at the Commercial Hotel, where both men were staying, and sold it for £1 10s.

Wellington. l6th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 3s. balance of fine and costs for obscene language, Arthur Deo Nille, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and seaman, native of America, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair going bald, blue eyes, scarover left eye, pierced heart on left forearm.

Wellington. —loth March last, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £4, the property of Ballinger Bros., plumbers, J. Smith, age about eighteen, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in a brown Norfolk suit and cap. Accused stole the bicycle from Maginnity Street, and sold it to Cecil Kellett, cycle mechanic, for £l.

Christchurch.— Herbert Noble Beasley, theft: It has been ascertained by the Christchurch police that accused may have left this Dominion, and that his wife, Ellen L. Beasley, who has a considerable amount of money, may endeavour to join him. She is about forty years of age, height 5 ft. 1 in., thin build; has golden hair which is probably dyed, and paints her face. She has a female child about three or four years old. The assistance of permit officers should be solicited with a view to the location of accused. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 332.)
