MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.
Supplying of Liquor to Troops. Attention is directed to the provisions of clause 14 of the War Regulations made on the 15th November, 1915, which makes it an offence to supply intoxicating liquor to any person being carried in a troop-train. The Crown Law Office advises that this regulation apples not only to those men who for the time being are actually on board the train, but also to men who during the course of their train journey may at any time be off the train— e.g., men who may temporarily leave the train at a railway-station. Members of the Force in charge of stations are hereby directed to draw the attention of licensees of hotels in the vicinity of railway-stations to the provisions of this regulation, and warn them against supplying any intoxicating liquor to soldiers who may be passing through on trooptrains. Efforts should also be made to see that the regulation is not infringed by licensees or their servants. It will be noted that a “troop-train” as defined by the regulation includes not only a train wholly reserved for the purpose of the Defence Forces, but also a carriage on an ordinary train wholly or chiefly used by those Forces. J. O’Donovan, - Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 3rd April, 1919. (P. 19/711.)
