WHEREAS by Warrant dated the twenty-first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, regulations were made prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Counties of Rotorua, Whakatane, and East Taupo, being part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District (hereinafter referred to as “ the said regulations ”) : And whereas it is deemed advisable to amend the said regulations to the extent hereinafter set forth : Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby amend clause three of the said regulations by substituting the word “ ten ” for the word “ twelve ” therein. Special Shooting Season for Native Game, Ashburton Acclimatization District. LIVERPOOL, Governor-General. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby exempt from the operation of section twenty-six of the said Act the Ashburton Acclimatization District, and do hereby notify that the following native game —viz., grey duck, black teal, and black swan—may be killed within the Ashburton Acclimatization District, comprising the County of Ashburton (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive. And I do further notify that the following native game—viz., paradise duck may be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive. And I do hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty head in all.

SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Native Game shall not be killed. 1. SCHEDULE. • Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not be killed. 1. All that area in the County of Waitemata bounded on the north by the Wairau Creek from its mouth to the main road from Devonport to Waiwera; on the west by the said road to its junction with the Sea View Road ; on the south by that road to the sea ; and on the east by the sea to the point of departure. 2. All those areas at Waitakerei, Nihotapu, and Huia, in the County of Waitemata, vested in or under the control of the Auckland City Council for the purposes of waterworks, recreation, or the conservation of the native flora and fauna. 3. Little Barrier Island, Hauturu, Auckland (see New Zealand Gazette No. 104, of the 14th December, 1899, page 2266). 4. Hen and Chickens Islands. 5. All that area within a radius of three miles from the General Post-office, Auckland. 6. The Rangiriri (or Karaka) Lake, Waikato. 7. St. John’s Lake and area adjacent (see New Zealand Gazette No. 43, of the 2nd May, 1901, page 986). 8. Ail that section, containing by admeasurement 141 acres, more or less, being the Hamilton Domain, including the Rotoiti or Hamilton Lake, Borough of Hamilton. 9. Fresh-water Lake, known as Lake Hakanoa, near Huntly, Waikato, and an area of five chains in width surrounding the said lake. 10. All that part of the Waihou River between the Waiorongomai Bridge and the Mangaiti Bridge over such river.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, situated in Kai Iwi and Kaihu Survey Districts, Hobson County, being the lakes known as Lake Waikere, Lake Taharoa, and Lake Kai Iwi, and the area surrounding the said lakes included within a line running parallel to and forty chains distant from the margins of the said lakes : also the Lighthouse Reserve at Pouto Point (North Kaipara Head), containing 1,026 acres, more or less : also all that area in the Auckland Land District, formerly known as Pouto No. 2d, situated at the north head of Kaipara Harbour, in North Head and Okaka Survey Districts, and containing by admeasurement 3,333 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north by Subdivision 10a of Pouto No. 2e Block from the sea to the north-western boundary of the Crown land on which the lighthouse and signal-station are situated ; thence towards the east by the above-mentioned Crown land to Kaipara Harbour ; thence towards the south by Kaipara Harbour, and towards the west by the sea to the place of commencement : also all that land in the Auckland Land District, being Subdivision No. 10a of Pouto No. 2e Block, situated in North Head and Okaka Survey Districts, to the north of the entrance to Kaipara Harbour, and containing by admeasurement 13,000 acres, more or less, bounded towards the northwest by Nos. 1 and 2 of the said Pouto No. 2e Block from the sea to the north-western corner of No. 10b of same block ; thence towards the north-east by the said No. 10b ; thence towards the south by a strip of Crown land adjoining Wahi Tapu Block, by the Crown land on which the lighthouse and signal-station are situated, and by the Crown land formerly known as Pouto No. 2d ; thence towards the west by the sea to the place of commencement: also certain area at Pouto Point, being the lakes known as Moheno Lake and Karaka Lake and the small lakes and lagoons adjacent to and in the vicinity of those lakes : also certain areas of water at Pouto Point, situated in the Okaka Survey District (see Gazette No. 42, of the Bth March, 1917, page 865) : also the game farm at Aratapu, and an area one mile in width surrounding the said farm : and also all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1909, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby exempt from the operation of section twenty-six of the said Act the Marlborough Acclimatization Society, and do hereby notify that the following imported game—viz., Californian quail—may he killed within the Marlborough Acclimatization District, comprising the Counties of Marlborough, Awatere, and Sounds (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the sixteeenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirtyfirst day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive ; and do hereby restrict the number of ruck imported game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to nos. more than twenty-five bead in all. And I do further notify that licenses to kill Ruch imported game within the said district shall be issued to any persoD on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each ; and the Chief Postmaster at Blenheim and the Postmasteis at Havelock, Canvastown, Mahakipawa, Renwicktown, Timatanga, Kekeranga, Pioton, Nydia Bay, Seddon, Spring Creek, Ward, and Wairau Valley are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game.

All that area in the Marlborough Laud District bounded towards the north east by the ocean from the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, at the mouth of the Wairau River, to the south eastern end of the Boulder Bank, at the northeastern corner of Section No. 10 of Block If, Omaka, situate in Block 111, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence towards the south generally by that section, Section 8 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, and Section 9 of Block IT, Omaka, both of which sections are situate in Block 111, Clifford Bay Survey District, to a point five chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon ; thence by a line parallel to and five chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon through Sections 9 of Block 11, Omaka, and 7 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, both of which sections are situate in Block 111, Clifford Bay Survey District, to the channel between the Big Lagoon and Chandler’s Lagoon ; thence towards the west generally by the said channel to a small lagoon in Section 5, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by the western side of that lagoon and a line parallel to and five chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon through Section 5 Opawa, public road, Crown land, and Section 3 Opawa, all of which sections are situate in Block I, Clifford* Bay Survey District, aforesaid, to the channel in Section 3 Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by that channel through Sections 3, 4,6, 9 Opawa, situate in Block, I, Clifford Bay Survey District, aforesaid, and a line parallel to and five chains distant from high-water mark, through Section 9 Opawa, public road, 7 Opawa, public road, 8 Opawa, all of which are situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District, aforesaid, to the southern side of the estuary of the Wairau River ; thence by a right line across the said estuary in the direction of the Pilot-station to the west side of the mouth of the Wairau River; and thence by a right line to the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, the place of commencement. Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby exempt from the operation of section twenty-six of the said Act the North Canterbury Acclimatization Distriot, and do hereby notify that the following imported game—viz , Californian quail—may be killed within the North Canterbury Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Canterbury and Marlborough Land Districts bounded towards the north-west by Westland, Grey, and Murchison Counties from the northwestern corner of Ashburton County to the Marlborough County, towards the north generally by Marlborough and Awatere Counties to the sea at the mouth of the Clarence River, towards the east generally by the sea to the mouth of the Rakaia River, and towards the south-east by Ashburton County to Westland County, the place of commencement (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive. And Ido further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. Also all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 250, 810, 890, and 157. Also that area situated at Woodend, in the Mandeville and Rangiora Road District, and defined in notification published in Gazette No. 93, of Bth November, 1900. Also that area known as Yarr’s Lagoon, near Greenpark, and defined in Gazette No. 52, of 23rd June, 1904. Also all that area within one mile on each side of the West Coast (Ghristchurch-Hokitika) Road from Springfield to Dillmaustown. Also Ahuriri Lagoon. , Also Horse-shoe Lake. Also Glenmark Lagoon. Also Cheviot Lagoon. Also all the River Avon and its tributaries to the tramwaybridge at New Brighton. Also lagoons at Amberley—namely, all that area, containing 74 acres, more or less, being Section No. 5664, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Alfred Edward Tutton, of Amberley. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby exempt from the operation of section twenty-six of the said Act the 0:ago Acclimatization District, and do hereby notify that the following imported game viz., Californian quail and mallard duck (English wild duck) —may be killed within the Otago Acclimatization District as described hereunder, from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive (except witli respect to Californian quail in the areas mentioned in the First Schedule hereto): — All that area in the Otago and Southland Districts comprising the Counties of Vincent, Maniototo, Waihemo, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Peninsula, Tuapeka, Bruce, Clutha, and part of the County of Southland. Bounded on the east and south by the ocean from Shag Point to the mouth of the Mataura River, on the west by the Mataura River and the County of Lake, on the north-west by the County of Westland, and on the north-east by the County of Waitaki; including the City of Dunedin and the boroughs within the above-described area (excepting therefrom the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto). And I do al-o notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings ; and the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin and the Postmasters at Alexandra, Clyde, Cromwell, and Roxburgh are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. And I do hereby restrict the number of Californian quail that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than thirty head in all. And I do hereby restrict the number of mallard duck that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twelve head in all. And I do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck (or widgeon), teal (except black teal), and black swan—may be killed within the abovementioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive. And I do hereby restrict the number of native game that may be killed by any one pers n in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all, exclusive of black swan. Tbe number of black swan which may be killed is not limited. A straight line commencing from the north-eastern corner of Macraes Township (Section 63, Block I, Highlay) to the mouth of the Shag River; thence by t! e ocean to the mouth of the Molyneux River; thence by straight line to the most southern portion of Darton Town ; thence by the western boundary of the said town, then by straight lino to the southern corner of the Town of Macraes ; thence by western boundary of the said town to the northern boundary of Section 54, Block I, Highlay; thence per line to the northwestern boundary of aforesaid district to the commencingpoint.

islands (excepting Kapiti). The aforesaid area comprises the Counties of Hutt, Makara, Masterton, FeatherstoD, Castlepoint, Wairarapa South, Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Mauriceville, Akitio, Horowher.ua, Kairanga, and Rangitikei, and parts of the Counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Kiwitea, together with the Boroughs of Carterton, Foxton, Greytown, Karori, Levin, Lower Hutt, Marton, Masterton, Onslow, Palmerston North, Pahiatua, Petone, City of Wellington, Eastbourne, Miramar, Taihape, Eketahuna, and Featherston, and the Town Districts of Hunterville, Johnsonville, Martinborough, Upper Hutt, and Mangaweka.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General. i~N exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908,1, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby exempt from the operation of s-ction

twenty-six of the said Act the Whangarei Acclimatization District, and do hereby notify that the following imported game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian and Australian quail —may be killed within the Whangarei Acclimatization District, comprising the County of Whangarei and part of the County of Otamatea (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive; and do hereby restrict the number of cock pheasants that may be killed by any one person in any one day to twelve, and the number of Californian quail to twelve. And Ido further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each ; and the Postmasters at Aponga, Hikurangi, Kamo, Kiripaka, Limestone, Mangapai, Mangawai, Maungakaramea, Parakao, Parua Bay, Poroti, Buakaka, Titoki, Waikiekie, Waipu, Whakapara, and Whangarei are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. And I do further notify that the following native game—viz., black swan, grey duck, pukeko, and teal—may be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, to the thirtyfirst day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, both days inclusive; and do hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twelve head in all.

SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not BE KILLED. All that area in the Auckland Land District, containing by admeasurement approximately twenty-eight square miles, situated in Purua and Whangarei Survey Districts, and comprising all the land within the circumference of a circle having a radius of three miles, and its centre near the hatcheries at the intersection of the eastern boundary of Ketenikau No. 7, in Block VIII, Purua Survey District, with the north side of the road cutting off the extreme south-eastern corner of the said Ketenikau No. 7. The boundary as exactly indicated abovo passes approximately through the places locally known as follows : Starting at the north it crosses Kauri Road just south of Big Mountain Trig. Station ; thence going westerly and southerly it crosses the Ruatangata Road at Ngararatunua Settlement; afterwards crossing Three-mile Bush Road near Campbell’s ; after passing through State Forest Reserves of 1,580 acres and 1,600 acres it strikes Maunu Road near Black Bridge; crossing Otaika Road at Raumanga it passes to the south-east of the Borough of Whangaiei, and crosses Head’s Road at Reyburn’s house; after crossing Whareora Road near the caves and Kiripaka Road near the church the boundary passes through Cork’s Farm and back to starting-point; including the Borough of Whangarei and the Town District of Kamo. At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twentyninth day of March, 1919. Present : His Excellency the Governor-General in Council. IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, as amended by the Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby suspend the operation of section ten of the said Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910, for the period commencing on the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, and ending on the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen, with respect to the species of birds

indigenous to New Zealand mentioned in the Schedule hereto; and, with the like advice and consent, doth declare that such suspension shall bo subject to the provisions contained in the Warrants in respect of the shooting season in each acclimatization district.

Notice.—Animals Protection Acts.—Protection of Native Bird?. Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, 27th March, 1919. rpHE public are earnestly requested to assist in preserving Jl for posterity the native birds of New Zealand. Under the Animals Protection Amendment Act of 1910 all indigenous birds are protected. Every person who destroys or injures or captures any bird which is indigenous to New Zealand, including the outlying islands, or robs or destroys the nest of any such bird, is liable to a fine not exceeding £2O. It is also illegal to keep native birds in captivity or to export the birds or their skins or feathers without the authority of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Native Game. Native game can only be shot during the open season, and then only such kinds of native game as are specified in the Annual Shooting-season Warrants. Close Season. Under the Animals Protection Act, the year 1919 and every third year thereafter is a close season for both imported and native game. Birds not protected. By a notification published in the New Zealand Gazette, protection has been removed for the period ending 31st December, 1919, from hawks of all species, the kea, ormountain parrot, and from shags of the following species, namely : Black shag, white-throated shag, sea shag. Native Game protected in Close Seasons. Black stilt plover, black swan, curlew, doterel, godwit, native pigeon, pied stilt plover, pukeko, teal, wild duck, wild goose. Indigenous Birds absolutely protected Kiwis of all species, New Zealand quail and Chatham Island pigeon, rails and woodhens of all species, dabchick and grebe. Sea birds of all species, including penguins, petrels, storm petrels, shearwaters, fulmars, diving-petrels, albatross, terns, gulls, skuas, noddies, and shags (with exceptions noted above); also gannets, frigate-birds, and tropic birds. Wading-birds of all species, including turnstones, oyster-catchers, plovers, wry-bill plovers, avocets, sandpipers, knots, snipe, herons, night-herons, reef-herons, and bitterns. Owls and parakeets of all species, and the kaka and kakapo, kingfisher, shining cuckoo, and long-tailed cuckoo. Rifleman and wrens of all species, tomtits, warblers, robins, fantails, whiteheads, yellowheads, and fern-birds of all species. North and South Island thrushes and crows, creepers, stitch-birds, makomako, tui, silver-eye, pipit or native lark, huia, and saddleback. Blue mountain duck and Auckland Island duck. IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the imported birds mentioned in the Schedule hereto, not being game of any kind under the said Act, may be taken or killed within the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatization District for the period ending the thirtieth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

RESOLUTION. THE following regulations were laid before the members of the North Otago Jockey Club at a meeting held on the 12th day of February, 1919, at Oamaru, with a recommendation by the Chairman of the Club, Mr. R. C. Gillies, that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by the Governor - General, in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33. Mr. R. C. Gillies, the Chairman of the Club and the Meeting, moved, and Mr. W. Bee seconded, and it was resolved, that such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to : NORTH OTAGO JOCKEY CLUB. Regulations. (Under the Gaming Act, 1908.) In pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the North Otago Jockey Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “ the said club ”), doth hereby revoke the regulations dated the 15th day of May, 1917, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the Oamaru Racecourse Reserve situated in the Oamaru Survey District, known as the Oamaru Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings. 1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette. 2. In these regulations the words “ bookmaker,” “ racing club,” and “ race meeting ” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908. 3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely,— (a.) Bookmakers. (b.) Bookmakers’ clerks, bookmakers’ assistants, and bookmakers’ agents. (c.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere, if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference. ( d.) Common prostitutes, and persons who habitually consort with thieves or with persons who have no 'lawful visible means of support. (e.) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of housebreaking or pocket-picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908. The foregoing regulations of the North Otago Jockey Club were made and passed by the North Otago Jockey Club on the 12th day of February, 1919, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary. * ROBT. C.
