INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Newtown (N.S.W.). —A warrant has been issued by the Newtown Bench for the arrest of William Blanks, charged with wife-desertion. He is thirty-one years of age, 5 ft. 11 in. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved, blue eyes, scar on left cheek; dresses well; a boilermaker. Last seen about three years ago, when he was supposed to have gone to New Zealand. Complainant, Ida Blanks, 42

New Scotland Yard (London).— Conrad Harms, alias Harris, wanted for uttering, on the Ist June, 1909, a forged draft, and obtaining £1,537 145., age thirty, height 5 ft. 3 in. or 4in., well built, inclined to be stout, swarthy complexion, rather round face, dark hair (usually cut short), probably dark moustache (may be clean-shaved or cultivate a straggling beard), slow in movements and speech, has a habit of staring intently when in conversation, quiet, cool demeanour, talks very little ; dresses plainly, sometimes wears a dark jacket suit and black hard-felt hat or Homburg hat; supposed born in Germany ; has somewhat the appearance of a Russian Jew ; speaks German, French, and English fluently, the latter with slight foreign accent ; a stockbroker’s clerk ; is fond of dealing in stocks and shares, and may do this with outside stockbrokers ; he has travelled a good deal, and spent some time in America, and will probably be found in some foreign city or the colonies. He is supposed to have in his possession part proceeds of the forgery, Bank of England note for £SOO, No. 2 81378, dated 19th August, 1908,
and one for £IOO, No. 2 81625, dated 18th January, 1908. Warrant issued. It is requested that every inquiry be made to trace this man, and if found to locate him and communicate with the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, before arresting. (09/1714.)
New York (America). - Wanted for murder, Leong Lum or Lin, or Leon Ling, alias Leong Chon Wing, American name, William L. Leon. Description : Chinaman, thirty years old, not more than 5 ft. 4 in. high, weighs 125 lbs., smooth face, good teeth, black hair, deep-set black eyes, when last seen his hair was cut American style. He is of very slim build and consumptive-looking, he has high oheek-bones, and his cheeks are sunken, he has a prominent sharp chin, he talks good English ; dressed in black clothes, wore a ring on ring-finger of left hand, and was very well dressed. He had a fondness for Chinese-silk shirts with snaps on instead of buttons, and for low-cut patent-leather shoes, which be wore laced down from the top with the bow tied at the bottom eyelet-holes. He may now be wearing Chinese costume and have on a false queue. When excited has a habit of frowning or knitting his eyebrows. Is slightly round-shouldered. He bad in his possession a gold hunting case watch, size 16, Waltham movement, case No. 929647, movement No. 7106640, there may be a monogram “W. L. L.” on it. He may also have the watch of the murdered woman, which is a gold watch, hunting case, size “O, ” case No. 208743, movement No. 5650015, 15 jewels, Waltham movement, design on front of two birds and a nest, on back there was a monogram, “M. C.A.” He might also have in his possession her gold chatelaine bag, of fleur-de-lis design, and a small gold locket about 1 in. long, heart-shaped. He is a good cook and waiter, and might seek employment in a restaurant or a private house. If found, report to be furnished to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, before arrest. ((09/1733.)
