Kawakawa. 22nd ultimo, from the tent of HUGH MICHAEL BRADFORD, labourer, a £5 note on Bank of New Zealand, No. 42150 (identifiable), and five single £1 notes.
Auckland.— 22nd ultimo, from a bedroom in Malcolm’s Trail.ing College, Jermvn Street, the property of KENNETH ABBOT, warehouseman, a gentlemen’s silver keyless Waltham watch, No. 9036424, and leather guard, value £3; a small “ Bee ” clock, value 45.; a straw hat with blue band, size 6|, value 2s. 6d.; a pair of black-leather lace up boots, newly half-soled, value 10s. Identifiable.
Rotorua. Between 19th and 22nd ultimo, from the dwelling of ERNEST BOUCHER, a cheque, No. 474968, for £2O on Bank of New Zealand drawn by J. H. Taylor in favour of E. W. Boucher, and a cheque-book on the National Bank, Auckland, containing blank oheques Nos. 474969 to 474985. Suspicion attached to Natives living in the Maori settlement near complainant’s dwelling.
Napier.—loth ultimo, from the bath room of the Caledonian Hotel, the property of MRS. McGAVIN, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with five diamonds ; value, £lB. Identifiable.
Hastings. —2nd instant, from a bedroom at the Albert Hotel, the property of LESLIE FRANK TEAGUE, labourer, an “ Onoto ” fountain pen, value 12s. 6d. ; a pair of dark trousers with blue stripe, leather at bottoms, nearly new, value £1 7s. 6d. (identifiable); also three £1 notes, a sovereign, and some silver. Suspicion attached to Albert William Foote , age twenty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and bushman, medium build, dark complexion, set brown eyes, brown hair, rather thin features, straight mouth, recent scar on right foot from axe. A Burnham absconder. (See Police Gazette, 1909, pages 80, 81, 109, and 146.)
New Plymouth. —Between Bth and 10th ultimo, from the paddock of DANIEL HERBERT BISHOP, Henwood Road, a very handsome almost white hack gelding (not dark dappled grey as previously reported), four years old, 16 hands high, mane and tail almost white, shoes branded “ H. Coburn ”; value, £3O. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 109.)
Hawera.— l2th instant, from the Jockeys’ room at Hawera Racecourse, the property of ALEXANDER MITCHELL, farmer, Manaia, a gold chain, Bernstein pattern; a round gold sovereign-cas9, “ Haydn, 1900,” engraved on one side, and “A. M.” on the other side: value, £7 10s. Identifiable.
Palmerston North.— 2oth ultimo, from a gig at the Polo Ground, the property of Dr. JAMES WILLIAM O’BRIEN, medical practitioner, a fox-skin rug, about 6 ft. by 5 ft., reddish-brown colour ; value, £4. Identifiable.
Mount Cook. — 30th ultimo, from Cuba Street, the property of JOHN SMYTH, coachman, a black greyhound dog, white spot on chest, near hind leg injured and the hair taken off, has a mark on the near side about the last rib caused by a knife, answers to the name of “ Stayboy ” ; value, £7. Identifiable. May be found amongst coursingmen in the country.
Christchurch. —7th instant, from a bedroom in Warner’s Hotel, the property of LEONARD H. C. BARLEY, clerk, Grand Hotel, Dunedin, a gentlemen’s 18 ct. gold hunting chronograph watch, No. 10060, Stewart Dawson, maker, “ L. H. C. B.” on front case, and “ Presented to Leonard H. C. Barley, from Mr. and Mrs. Hayward, Ist January, 1909,” engraved on inside ; value, £25. Identifiable.
Timaru. — 22nd ultimo, from Elizabeth Street, the property of JAMES BAIRD, carpenter, a gentlemen’s blackenamelled Swift bicycle, 24 in. frame, nickel rims, back-rim Bowden brake, Brooks saddle, upturned handles.
Dunedin. 3rd ultimo, from Tahuna Park Trotting Ground, during the progress of trotting-raoes, the property of WILLIAM A. WARD, hairdresser, a gentlemen’s MasseyHarris bicycle, No. 641318, front-rim brake, 20 in. frame, reversible handles, a road-racing machine ; value, £9. Identifiable.
Mataura. —Between 24th December and 20th February last, from Springvale, the property of JAMES G. CRAIG, farmer, twenty crossbred six-tooth ewes, branded “ J C ” in red on back, mixed ear marks, value 14s. 6d. each; fortynine crossbred lambs, branded “ J C ” in red on back, ewes have nip out of point of right ear, and wethers have a nip out of point of left ear, value 11s. 6d. each. Identifiable.
Invercargill.— l2th instant, from the residence of L. G. Roope, Gala Street, the property of MARY ROBSON, a ladies’ Century bicycle, No. 113480, free wheel, two rimbrakes, rubber pedals, Brooks saddle, tool-bag and lamp attached ; value, £lO. Identifiable.
