INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Wolumla (New South Wales). — A warrant has been issued by the Wolumla Bench for the arrest of Daniel Toohey, charged with child desertion. He is about thirtyfive years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, brown curly hair, brown moustache, fair complexion, blue eyes ; dressed well, generally carries an umbrella; an engine-driver on gold-fields ; may assume the name of Michael Joseph Toohey. Complainant, Maud Crummer. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1906, page 364.) lie is supposed to have been working at the Ajax Mine, Reefton, but no trace can be obtained of him. For inquiry only, that he may be compelled to provide for the maintenance of his child. (08/539.)
Macquarie District, Tasmania. — Cecil Kingston is charged on warrant, issued on the 27th April last, by Archibald Douglas, Edq., 3.P., w;ith having, on or about the sth day of December, 1907, at Queenstown, feloniously stolen the sum of £ftßs the money of one Allan Smith. Description: About twentvlsix .yeatfs, 5 ft. 7Jin. high, stout build, round-shouldered, dark hair, dark eyebrows (thick), small dark mo us tach afonw, high forehead, small dark eyes, round chin, long thin complexion, slovenly gait, very talkative!; a labourer. England. Astley, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 11 in., farm labourer and stockman, medium build, about 12 st. weight, darkbrown hair, dark complexion, dark eyes, heavy dark-brown moustache, very bad teeth in front, may now have false teeth. He left Wainui, Auckland, in July, 1904, and was seen in Sydney about two months later. About five years ago he was employed as stockman for Mr. Lawless, Boubygan Station, Brisbane. (07/1408.)
