Suspicion attached to Frank Hulme, age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sandy hair and complexion, sandy moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and black hard hat. Suspect was working with complainant and occupied the same room, and left for Auckland on the afternoon of the 2nd instant.

Gisborne. —24th December last, from the s.s. “ Manuka,” property of CHARLES DOOLEY, groom, a gentlemen’s open-faced silver Waltham watch, No. 1139681, “Charles Dooley, 29 years of age,” engraved on case ; a 9 ct. gold albert chain with rolled-gold cross pendant; a citizen’s naturalisation papers issued in State of Pennsylvania; a marine engineer or driver’s certificate issued in Baltimore, U.S.A. ; £4O in Bank of Australasia notes ; suspicion attached to John Dempsey, age about twenty-six, height sft. 10in., medium build, clean-shaved; dressed in dark suit, soft blaok-felt hat. Complainant and offender were steerage passengers on s.s. “ Manuka ” from Auckland to Gisborne.
