Ponsonby. —6th instant, from the dwelling of JAMES BLACK, a brown-leather purse, containing a 15 ct. gold ring (“ M.H.C.” in monogram on outside), six sovereigns, a halfsovereign, a£l note, and a threepenny-piece; total value, £9 ss. 3d.
Ponsonby.— Between 23rd and 28th ultimo, from the dwelling of LAURA NAIRN, Argyle Street, an 18 ct. marquise ring set with about fourteen small diamonds, small ruby in centre ; value, £25. Identifiable.
Papakura.— 2sth ultimo, from a paddock, property of JOSEPH FLANAGAN, farmer, Drury, a dark-brown medium draught gelding, aged, very noticeable lump on nostril, supposed on near side; value, £ls. Identifiable.
Napier. —7th or Bth ultimo, from the dwelling of KATE McKNIGHT, boardinghouse-keeper, a ladies’ plain gold ring; a ladies’ gold dress-ring, three diamonds and three rubies, bright star and grain - setting, value £5; a ladies’ dressring set with diamonds and rubies, bright star and grainsetting, value £3; a small plain gold heart, value 7s. 6d. ; four small unmounted sharks’ teeth : total value, £9 10s. Identifiable.
Hastings. —l3th instant, from the whare of WILLIAM BRANT, labourer, a white-silk handkerchief stained with tobacco, a briar-wood pipe, and three or four shillings in silver. Suspicion attached to John Woods, who occupied the whare with complainant and suddenly cleared out, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Hastings, full round face, sallow complexion, sharp nose, thick-set build, dark hair; dressed in grey-tweed trousers, dark coat and vest, and dark cap or old brown-felt hat. Blenheim.— llth instant, from the Grosvenor Hotel, property of DONALD MCCLELLAND, a large new lightcoloured portmanteau, metal plate on side (“ D. McO” or “ Donald McClelland ” scratched on it), containing two suits of men’s working-clothes, also sundry papers and references; value, about £2 15s. Identifiable.
Blenheim.— 9th or 10th instant, from the bedroom, of CHARLES MANNING, Commercial Hotel, eleven £1 Bank of New Zealand notes, one note very much torn and frayed; a George IV sovereign, 1832; a jubilee four-shilling piece; four shillings in silver; an aluminium Defiance almanac, about the size of a five-shilling piece. Also stolen from the bedroom of W. S. COLE eleven £1 notes, three of them new. Suspicion attached to John Moore, alias George Johnstone, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6f in., labourer, native of Auckland, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, dark moustache only; dressed respectably in navy-blue suit. (See Police Gazette, 1904, page 177.) The suspect was discharged from Dumgree Prison on 9th instant, and left for Wellington on the 11th instant.
Reefton. —29th or 30th ultimo, from the paddock of JOSEPH FARRELL,^aT half-draught dark-bay mare, six years old, about 16 hands high, black points, large hoofs; value, £4O. J! " Identifiable.
Christchurch. —l9th ultimo, from LORRAINE TANSLEY, actress, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold marquise ring set with thirteen or fourteen diamonds, three rubies in centre ; value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Olive Fitzsimmons, pianist, who received the ring for safe-keeping during complainant’s turn on the stage, and stated she lost it, age about thirty-two, height 5 ft. 5 in., copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, a half-caste negress.
o amaru. —7th March last, from the GOVERNMENT RAILWAY-STATION, a case about 3 ft. by 3 ft. containing six dozen gentlemen’s black-felt hats, size" 1 6A to 7J, “ Manufactured in England for J. Bullied & Co., Oamaru ” stamped on inside band; value, £3O. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —Bth instant, from Water Street, property of GLADYS JAMES, typist, a ladies’ free-wheel Kent bicycle, handles slightly drooped, celluloid grips, rubber pedals, toolbag attached containing a small key; value, £lO. Identifiable.
