INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Western Australia. —Special inquiry requested for the whereabouts of Hugh Bowley, who was employed in the Engineer-in-Chief’s office, and was last heard of at Perth on the 18th August, 1906. He was formerly a clerk in the Coolgardie Post-office. Description: Slight build, age twentyeight years, height 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., fair hair parted in the middle, rather long fair moustache, thin fair eyebrows, low forehead, small blue eyes, straight nose, good teeth, pointed chin, large protruding ears, long visage, sallow complexion ; takes long stride when walking ; quiet refined manner ; a native of England; generally dresses in a light-grey sac suit and grey cap. Sydney.— A warrant has been issued at Calcutta, India, for the arrest of E. J. Murphy, alias Murdock, charged with breach of trust as a servant in respect of Rs. 2,131 6 As., which amount was intrusted to him by Mr. C. W. Cooke, as his manager, to carry on the business of Cooke’s Electric Body Batteries, which amount he criminally misappropriated or converted to his own use, between the Ist November, 1906, and the 13th December, 1906 ; and also in respect of sixty-six Cooke’s electric body batteries, valued about Rs. 9,520, between the dates aforesaid, at No. 1 Espladc Row East, at Calcutta. Offender is twenty-nine years of age, 6 ft. 1 in. high, well built, clean-shaved, fair complexion, broad forehead, small chin, grey eyes, dark-brown hair, dark eyebrows which meet, nose slight cant one side, Irish-American accent; generally dresses in blue-serge suit, hard black or straw hat. Was arrested in Sydney on the 14th February last, remanded from time to time; should have appeared at Water Police Court on the 27th March, but failed to do so ; last seen Sydney, 7 p.m., 26th March. The above-mentioned warrant has been backed for execution in New South Wales. Arrest desired ; officer*from Calcutta now in Sydney. Photograph filed in the Commissioner’s Office, Wellington.
