Auckland. Ernest Engster, jeweller, Upper Queen Street, reports that on the sth instant his shop was broken into, and the following stolen: Nine gentlemen’s and four ladies’ open-faced silver Geneva watches, made by Ferret Fils, Switzerland, 0935 on back of each case (gentlemen’s watches are keyless, faces of ladies’ watches pink-coloured and richly decorated), and a silver dessertspoon engraved all over ; value, £l4. Identifiable.
Newmarket (Auckland).— Ernest Harold Strong, railway porter, reports stolen from the lamp-room in the Remuera Railway-station, on the 2nd instant, a silver open-faced English lever Rotherham watch, No. 188039, “Ernest Strong ’ ’ on inside of case ; silver chain attached : value, £5 10s. Identifiable.
Waiuku. —Henry Saunders and A. B. Hart, photographers, report stolen from their studio, on the 4th instant, a halfplate Wizard camera in a black-leather case, three dark slides, twenty-four camera-plates, two pairs of hair-clippers, two pairs of scissors, and £3 10s. in cash; total value, £ll 9s.
Wanganui. —Thomas Harvey James, architect, reports stolen, on the 24th ultimo, a pure-bred Irish setter dog, about two years old, good feathers on legs and tail somewhat lighter-red-coloured than the body, answers willingly to name of “Pat”; value, £2O. A black dog, cross between Gordon setter and black spaniel a little tan colour with a
mixture of grey hairs on muzzle, white patch on breast, lump on lower lid of one eye near the corner, answers to name of “Rover ” ; value, £5. Both are good sporting-dogs, and retrieve.
Palmerston North.— Michael Burke, labourer, reports stolen from the Railway Refreshment-rooms, on the 3rd instant, two white' blankets, a dark rug with red selvage, a pair of light-tweed trousers, a grey shirt, two pairs of new socks, and a pair of new woollen drawers; value, £2 ss. 6d. Suspicion attached to James Nathan Troy, alias Thompson. Description: A native of New South Wales, labourer, fortynine years of age, 5 ft. 6£ in. high, sallow complexion, darkbrown hair, blue eyes, large nose. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 227.)
Palmerston North. —Mary Ann Delahunty, boarding-house-keeper, Longburn, reports stolen, on the 27th ultimo, a grey blanket with red-white-and-blue border, a dark-grey rug with similar border; value, 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Charles Tempter Jones. Description: A native of England, labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, slight build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved; dressed in dark coat, black trousers and vest, tennis-shirt, and black hard hat. Was seen going towards Shannon carrying two blankets on his arm.
Mangatainoka.— Charles Arthur Irving, sheep - farmer, Pahiatua, reports stolen from the railway yard, on the 9th instant, a fawn-coloured covert coat, grease - marks round the collar and shoulder of right sleeve “ J. Ballantine, Christchurch and Timaru,” on the tab; value, £2. Identifiable.
Carterton. —Gordon Hughan, cycle agent, reports stolen from his shop, about the 7th February last, a Massey-Harris bicycle, No. 18424, model 6, black frame, Brooks saddle, adjustable handles, steel rims ; value, £lO. Suspicion attached to Patrick O’Connell. Description : Supposed Irish, labourer, has been employed flax-cutting, about thirty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, stout build, light complexion, sandy hair, moustache only ; is very talkative.
Greymouth. —Frederick Brown, carpenter, reports stolen from his workshop, between the 9th and 11th instant, a nearly new rip-saw, a hole in handle for the thumb, four rivets in a row, one tooth missing, and an American chisel, ash handle with iron ring on top ; value, £l. Identifiable.
(See Police Gazette, 1903, page 75.) Christchurch. —T. S. Patrick’s bicycle stolen: It has been ascertained that the bicycle is No. 1587.
Christchurch. —Frederick James Doell, labourer, No. 7, Albert Street, reports stolen from Strange and Co.’s, Lichfield Street, on the 4th instant, a gentlemen’s khaki bicycle, No. 339, black-enamelled 22 in. frame, Palmer rims and tires, green strip in centre of rim, rat-trap pedals, reversible handles, Reynolds chain ; value, £2O. Identifiable.
Lyttelton. —George Findley, labourer, No. 316, Oxford Terrace, reports stolen from the Harbour Board Shed, on the 7th instant, a gentlemen’s silver open-faced Waltham watch, black hands, a silver watch-chain with alternate large and small oblong links attached; value, £4 ss. Identifiable.
Timaru. — Joseph Thomas Daly, alias Frederick Johnston, is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 14th instant, of a gentlemen's Record bicycle, No. 645, flat handles, 22 in. frame, black-and-white celluloid grips, Brooks 810 saddle, rat-trap pedals, the property of Oates, Lowry, and Co. ; value, £lO. Offender is a native of New Zealand, about seventeen years of age, about 4 ft. 10 in. high, stunted growth, blue eyes, dark hair, long dark eyelashes, projecting ears, freckled face, small nose, front teeth much decayed, one or two supposed to be missing ; dressed in dark cap, brown-check tweed coat, brown-moleskin trousers, and blue-striped cotton shirt with collar attached, no tie. He is also wanted for absconding from Burnham Industrial School. (See Police Gazette, 1903, page 75.)
Timaru. —David Marshall, chief steward, s.s. “ Norfolk,” reports stolen from his cabin, on the 11th instant, a nearly new light-brown cloth suit, size 5 ; two pairs of black-kid laceup boots, size 8 ; six white shirts marked D.M., a jersey with “Norfolk” on front, six 4 ft. by 2ft. orange-coloured curtains, a light-brown cloth vest, and a razor and case : value, £9 16s. Identifiable.

Ashburton. Richard David Johnston’s bicycle stolen: Percy Batty and William Brown are no longer suspected of this offence.
(See Police Gazette, 1903, page 63.) Gore. —Henry Wright’s bicycle has been recovered, and John Latham arrested for the offence. Case dismissed.
Adelaide. —George Wills and Co., merchants, report that on the 20th ultimo their premises were feloniously entered, an iron safe blown open with dynamite, and the following stolen: A very old-fashioned gold open-faced lever watch minus the ring, gold-coloured dial and figures, and has “ Presented to Charles Brown by the Marquis of Salisbury” engraved on it; the watch is over one hundred years old, and is highly valued as an heirloom. (See South Australia Police Gazette, 1903, page 48.) Special inquiries to be made at all jewellers', pawnbrokers’, and second-hand dealers' establishments. (03/759.)
