Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland.— Samuel Given is charged on warrant with theft, on the 22nd January last, of a swag (recovered), the property of Edward Reardon, gum-digger ; value, £2 11s. Description: A native of Ireland, gum-digger, fifty-one years of age, 5 ft. lOJin. high, dark complexion, black hair turning grey, brown eyes, stout build, rolling gait; dressed when last seen in dungaree pants, dark coat, and brown slouch hat.

The swag was stolen from Samuel Marks’s boardinghouse, Queen Street, and sold by the offender to William Bromfield, second-hand dealer.

Waihi. William S. 0. Nicholl, farmer, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 7th instant, a silver hunting-watch, “ William Nicholl ” scratched on inside of case ; also a gold chain with small flat links, twisted centre-piece, chain broken in middle : value, £9. Identifiable. The case of the watch has been found in a creek.

Waiteiiauri. — Francis H. Birtwhistle reports that between the Bth and 22nd ultimo his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: A gold ring, “Forget me not” thereon, “ Beeby, Queenstown,” stamped on inside; a brown hard hat, a brown-tweed coat and vest, brown saddle-tweed trousers; a pair of lace-up boots, size 8; a broad red belt, a clothes and hat brush; a pair of kangaroo leggings (may have ink-stains inside), thirteen buckles on each legging; a lightning saw, a metal-handled knife with corkscrew, a Johnston’s Gardening Dictionary, several books on gardening, a book on farming by Gethro Tull, Cassell’s English and Latin Dictionary, American Pharmacopoeia ; a Bible, “ Mrs. Gibbons ” written in it; a book on the industry of animals, a catalogue of the plants in the Botanical Gardens, Adelaide, Wide World magazines, two parts of The Engineer, a binocular, and long brass syringe for plants : value, £l4. Identifiable.

Stratford. Arthur Nicol, carpenter, reports stolen from the passage of the County Hotel, on the 4th instant, a gentlemen’s Rambler bicycle, No. 75889, model 52, 1902, black-enamelled 22 in. frame, drooped handles, black wood rims ; value, £24. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Edward Carter, labourer, No. 12, Vivian Street, reports stolen from the lavatory of Bushett’s boardinghouse, Willis Street, on the 11th instant, a gentlemen’s gold band ring, T C thereon in raised letters “ Potter and Co.” on inside; had two green stones between the letters T and C, one missing : value, £2 10s. Identifiable.

Blenheim. Leonard Barton is now charged on warrant with the theft of Alfred Reynolds’s watch. Offender was in Wellington on the 27th December last, and is supposed to have sold the watch to a man named George Wilson for £l. Watch recovered in Fruhauf’s pawn-office, Willis Street.

Sydenham. —James McLean, boat-builder, Gordon Street, reports that on the 13th instant his house was broken into, and the following stolen: A nearly new blue-cloth sac suit, made to fit a man about 5 ft. 6 in. high and about 10 st. weight; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Lyttelton. —George Steele, fireman, reports stolen from him, on the 2nd instant, a silver lever English huntingwatch, W.S. on case; a gold bar brooch, with letters W.C.H. thereon; a gold ring with M.S. thereon, and a vacancy where hair has been placed; also, four sovereigns: value, £8 15s. Identifiable, except money.

Addington.— Herbert Hardingham reports that between the 11th and 16th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A diagonal black-cloth evening vest and trousers ; a fawn-coloured tweed double-breasted vest and trousers, smoked-pearl buttons on vest; a gold horse-shoe scarf-pin; a pair of chased gold sleeve-links, long narrow pattern; a silver-mounted skin card-case: value, £8 Bs. 6d. Identifiable.

Addington. —James Stewart, mechanic, reports that on the 19th instant his dwelling in Bright’s Road was broken into, and the following stolen: A sovereign; 6s. in silver; a razor, one side white, the other black, a small punch-hole in end of blade ; a very old razor with a brown-bone handle ; two pairs of gold-washed oval sleeve-links ; and a gold-washed collar-stud : value, £2 7s. Razors identifiable.

Glenavy. —Mrs. Michael Cooney reports that on the 18th instant her dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: A gold brooch with K.O. engraved on front and “ St. Joseph’s Choir ” on back, a small gold chain and bell attached, a gold horse-shoe scarf-pin broken in centre, and 6s. in silver; value, £2. Identifiable, except money.

Linwood. — Ronald Partridge, jeweller, reports that his dwelling was broken into on the Bth instant, and the following stolen: A girls’ gold ring set with three small rubies and two pearls, a small brown crocodile purse containing tram tickets and 4s. 6d. ; total value, £2 os. 2d.

Dunedin. —James Thomas, labourer, reports stolen from him, on the 7th instant, a gentlemen’s silver lever huntingwatch, No. 58000, a 9-carat gold albert with short and long links attached ; value, £6. Identifiable,

Roxburgh.— Alexander Hendricksen, miner, reports stolen from him, on the 17th instant, an open-faced Waterbury watch and a silver short-link cnrb chain; value, £1 18s. Identifiable.

Roxburgh — Thomas Lister, hotelkeeper, reports stolen from him, on the 17th instant, a gun metal open faced watch with black hands ; value, £2 10s. Identifiable.

Orepuki.— Albert Brooks, sawmill-hand, reports stolen from him, on the 7th instant, a brown-leather pocket book, containing a £5 note, No. 383380, and about 2s. worth of penny stamps.
