Deserters from His Majesty’s Service.
From H.M.S. “Penguin,” at Auckland. On Bth January, 1903. Benjamin Taylor, stoker, native of New South Wales, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, Chilian coat-of-arms on left forearm, cross and pedestal on right forearm. From H.M.S. “Penguin,” at Auckland On 14th November, 1902. Frederick George Turnbull, boy, first class, native of Hartlepool, England, 5 ft. 8 in. high, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, sallow complexion. A reward of £3 will be given for the apprehension of each of the above deserters, in addition to £5 from the Colonial Government. (See Police Gazette, 1903, page 3.) JamesF. Glasson, deserter from H.M.S. “ Wallaroo,” has been arrested by Constable G. A. McQuarrie, Port Chalmers police. (See Police Gazette, 1902, pages 269 and 282.)
P. Loryman, deserter from H.M.S. “ Ringarooma,” has been arrested by Constable J. Copland, Coalgate police. He was going under the name of George Williams, and is now serving a sentence of one month for theft.
