(See Police Gazette , 1901, page 181.) Aucklanb. —Thomas Reid, charged with assault on Charles Bellet: Warrant cancelled, as the prosecutor has left the colony.

Inglewood.— William Skelley, charged on warrant with default of fine for theft, has been arrested by Sergeant J. Dwyer, Wanganui police, and lodged in the Wanganui Gaol.

Stratford. —Herbert Snell, charged with obtaining credit by fraud, cashed the two £SO notes and the £5 notes at Eltham about the 30th ultimo.

Hawera. — George Booth is charged on warrant with obtaining 10s. from Elizabeth A. Adams by false pretences on the 10th instant. Description: A labourer, about fortyfive years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, brown hair, bald on top of head, clean-shaved except moustache, has tattoo-marks on arms ; dressed in dark coat and dungaree trousers, a white sweater, and a light-grey soft-felt hat. Supposed identical with Cornelius Tall, alias Booth, &c. (See Police Gazette, 1901, pages 78 and 266.) Supposed to have gone towards New Plymouth.

Hawera. —James Dwyer, charged with obtaining credit by fraud from Arthur Albert Fanthan, arrived in Auckland from Wellington by the s.s. “ Elingamite,” and proceeded to Sydney by the same boat on the 20th ultimo, under the name of Mr. Knight. He was accompanied by Mrs. McPadgen, who stopped with him at the Grand Central, Sydney.

Wanganui.— P. Williams (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with having, on the 15th instant, forged and uttered a cheque for £2 10s. to James Hodson, baker, Bell Street, Wanganui. Description: Supposed colonial, about twenty-eight years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, sharp features and nose, sallow complexion, dark hair, dark moustache and side whiskers ; dressed in shabby dark suit, brown soft hat; has a quiet manner, and generally keeps to himself. He came from Wellington, where he was known by the name of Dickson, and was employed for a week by Fraser, Smith, and Co., photographers, Wanganui, and forged their name to the cheque which he uttered.

Wanganui.— John Hughes and Selina Ann Hughes are charged on warrant with, incest at Wanganui on the Ist September, 1901. Descriptions—First: A native of England, sixty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, upper and lower lips shaved; generally dressed in a dark-tweed suit, black soft-felt hat, white shirt, and black tie. Second: A native of New Zealand, twenty-eight years of age, about 5 ft. 2 in. high, fair hair and oomplexion, blue eyes, left hand deformed (no fingers on it) ; may be dressed in dark navy-blue dress, white-straw gem hat with black band. Left Palmerston North on 13th ultimo for Wellington, saying they were going to Christchurch. The female offender is the mother of two children said to be by her father, the male offender.

Feilding. —John Hargraves, alias Thomas Kavanagh, is charged on warrants of commitment to Wanganui for three days in default of paying £1 155., fine and costs for drunkenness. Description: A native of England, a cook and hotel rouseabout, thirty years of age, 5 ft. 6in. high, slight build, rather sallow complexion, grey eyes, darkbrown hair, clean - shaved except dark-brown moustache, slightly prominent teeth ; dressed in dark sac suit and cap. Carries a swag rolled up in a striped rug.

Masterton. — William Mulligan is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for fourteen days in default of paying £1 17s. 6d., fine and costs for medical treatment for drunkenness. Description: About

fifty-six years of age, a cook and baker, 5 ft. BJin. high, stout build, grey hair whiskers and moustache, large nose turned on one side ; dressed in a grey-tweed suit.

Wellington. — Bertie Grenville is charged on warrant with false pretences on Peter Wilson, manager, City Buffet Hotel, on the 2nd instant. Description : A Jew, and generally works as a canvasser, and sometimes as a labourer, twenty-four years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, clean-shaved, and may be wearing a black-serge suit and hard black hat. Supposed to have gone by s.s. “ Zealandia” to Dunedin on the 21st instant. Offender obtained £4 19s. from complainant by means of a valueless oheque. He is now on probation for theft. (See “ Prisoners discharged from Wellington Gaol ” this issue of Gazette; and Police Gazette , 1899, pages 287 and 247.)

Christchurch. Dougald Paterson is charged on warrant with absconding from bail on the 14th instant. Description: A native of New Zealand, thirty-six years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, cleanshaved, brown hair turning grey, active appearance, good address; was formerly bank clerk at Dunedin, where his parents reside. He was lately in partnership with Magnus and Co., gold-dredging brokers, &c., High Street, Christchurch, and was arrested for obtaining £l2 10s. from Alfred Butcher by false pretences, and admitted to bail. He was staying at the Marine Hotel, Sumner, and left there on the 9th instant. When last seen was wearing a dark coat and vest and white slouch hat, and may have a rolled-gold chain and Waterbury watch.

Christchurch. —Theodora or Albert Harwood, charged with forgery, has been arrested by Constable W. J. Whatman, Akaroa police, and committed for trial. The arrest of Ward, alias McKay, is not now desired, as the evidence does not connect him with the forgery.

Lyttelton. —James Wilford McKeever, alias Molvor, alias Mclvon, charged with damaging the property of Michael Roche, has been arrested by the Greymouth police, and remanded to Lyttelton.

Kaiapoi. — John George Clifford is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for seven days in default of paying 18s., fine and costs for drunkenness. Description: A native of Ireland, labourer, sixty years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, grey hair and beard, walks with a limp, and is generally swagging about the country.

Dunedin. — George Cripps is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol for forty-eight hours in default of paying 135., fine and costs for drunkenness. Description: A native of Victoria, a plumber, thirty-five years of age, 5 ft. 7Jin. high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, blue eyes. Supposed to have gone shearing in Central Otago.

Dunedin. — Frank James McKnight is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol for fourteen days in default of paying £3 35., fine and costs for assault. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-four years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, auburn hair, grey eyes. Supposed to have gone South.

Dunedin. — Victor Towsey is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol for twenty-four hours in default of paying ss. and costs for keeping an unregistered dog. Description: Colonial, about twenty years of age, a factoryhand, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, olean-shaved, blue eyes, long thin faoe, very long nose; usually dressed in brown-tweed suit. Supposed to have gone to Central Otago. There is now due the sum of Bs.
