Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Helensville. Herbert Edward Richards is charged on warrant with theft, on the 21st October last, of a horse, the property of William Ravvson (recovered) ; value, £4. Description: A native of New Zealand, fourteen years of age, fresh complexion, dark hair cut short; when last seen was wearing a grey suit—long trousers, which were noticeable as the boy is small for his age, straw hat with red-and-white band ; may be wearing a tweed cap. His mother resides at Northern Wairoa, and he has relations near Tupiri, Waikato, and at Swanson, near Auokland. Other oharges pending.
(See Police Gazette, 1901, page 272.) Whitiangi.— Francis Kirk’s horse, saddle, and bridle have been recovered.
Cambridge —Channing C. Buokland,. farmer, reports stolen at Ratanui, during February or July last, thirty steers, two and two and a half years old, branded on off-side rump with vertical bar, two horizontal bars across it, a square niche out of top and bottom of right or off ear; one or two of them may have a square niche out of bottom of each ear, may have other ear-marks, but the above brand and earmarks are very distinct: value, £IOO. Suspicion attached to the brothers James and William Poiver. Description : First, a native of Christchurch, about twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 8 in. high, dark hair, blue eyes, reddish florid complexion, clean shaved, medium build, good address, gentlemanly appearance. Second, about eighteen, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, dark hair, slight build, blue-grey eyes. They have since been committed for trial for horse-stealing (see following paragraphs, Hastings and Napier Stations). It is suspected that the stolen cattle were sold to Napier or Taranaki dealers.

Hastings.— James Brown’s horse has been recovered, and James and William Power arrested for the offence by Constable A. McGilp, Cambridge police, and committed for trial.

Napier. Dr. Arthur Edwin Roland’s horse has been recovered, and James and William Power arrested for the offence by Constable A. McGilp, Cambridge police, and committed for trial.

Feilding. —Lambert Claphara, wheelwright, Halcombe, reports stolen, about the sth ultimo, a white milking cow, nine years old ; no brands, puneb-hole in centre of near ear and split to tip ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Sydenham. —Robert Lyness, cabman, Gibbon Street, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 12th ultimo, a dark bay mare, six years old, 15£ hands high, white b'.aze down face, near fore fetlock white, shod all round, had a nearly new white canvas cover on ; value, £2O 12s.

Coalgate. —George Ridgen, farmer, reports stolen from the farmer’s stable, Norwood, on the 20th ultimo, a light coloured chestnut hack mare, will go in harness, aged, about 16 hands high, a tooth broken in front, white blaze down face, no brands, cut on off hind leg; value, £7 15s.
