Arson.
Katikati. —On the Bth and 9th ultimo two deliberate attempts were made to destroy the Talisman Hotel, owned by L. D. Nathan, and insured in the Norwich Union for £6OO. Robert Knox is licensee, and the stock, furniture, and stables were insured for £7OO. The fire was discovered in the bedrooms, and kerosene appeared to have been poured over the pillows. Damage to the extent of about £25 was done, and at an inquest held on the 11th, 12th, and 13th ultimo a verdict was returned that the hotel was wilfully set on fire by some person or persons unknown.
