Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Auckland. — Walter Dyer is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child. Description: About twenty years of age, a butcherboy or labourer, about 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, dark or brown hair, dark-brown eyes, full round face, fair complexion, small fair moustache only ; dressed in dark clothes and white-straw bat; was last seen at Onehunga on the 13th ultimo, and may be found in tbe Taranaki district, where he has an uncle named McGarry, supposed living near Stratford. Complainant, Elsie May Bishop, York Street, Newton.

Napier. — William Charles May, alias Watson, is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of bis illegitimate child. Description: Supposed Scotch, hotel-cook, about thirty-one years of age, about 5 ft. 2 in. high, inclined to stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, and moustacho only, one or two front upper teeth missing; dressed in dark clothes and soft brown hat. He left Napier on the 27th November last for Palmerston North to train for athletic sports. Complainant, Caroline Gill, domestic servant, Spencer Road.

Dannevirke. — John Wilkins is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his children. Description: Supposed English, a labourer and gardener, about forty years of age, about sft. 8 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, beard whiskers and moustache ; respectable appearance. Supposed to have left Poxton for Napier about the middle of November, 1900.

Wellington.— Frederick Archibald Wilkinson is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child. Description : Colonial, a traveller for cycle-dealers, twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 11 in. high, slight build, dark complexion, clean-shaved ; generally dressed in dark clothes; was lately employed by the Star Cycle Company. Supposed to have gone to Christchurch or Dunedin.

Wellington.— Frederick Theophilus Coley is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Martha Helen Coley. Description : A native of Wellington, a labourer and flax-mill hand, thirty-one years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, swarthy complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved except moustache, grey eyes'; dressed in blue-serge suit, crape band on one arm. Left Palmerston on the Gth instant by train for Eketahuna ; had a swag and two sheep-dogs with him. May attempt to leave the colony in company with a girl named Sherlock.

Wellington. — Charles Wilson is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the maintenance of his wife. Description : A colonial, a wharf-labourer and fireman, twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, full face, broad nose, small fair moustache, bow-legged; dressed in black suit and brown Dr. Jim hat; may have a black scarf round his neck. The sum of £4 was in arrears on the 25th January, 1901.

Wellington. —Frederick Simeon, jun., charged with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, was seen at Sydney, during the Commonwealth celebrations by some of the returned troopers. He stated that he was doing jobbing-work around Sydney.

Christchurch.— John Walker, charged with disobeying an order of Court to support his wife, has been arrested by Constable J. P. Miller, Auckland police, and remanded.

Christchurch. Nathaniel Amadio is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Lena Amadio. Description : Italian, twenty-five years of age, a cook, 5 ft. 8 in. high, dark complexion, dark straight hair, dark-brown eyes, dark moustache, medium build, birth-mark resembling a wart on forehead, hair long in front; dressed in dark-blue sac suit and dark-grey skull cap; is fond of drink. He left his home on the 24th ultimo and has not been seen since. His wife is destitute.

Christchurch. — William Smith is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description : A native of New Zealand, a horse-trainer, twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. Gin. high, slight build, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair moustache ; was seen in Wellington about the 19th ultimo, and may try to leave the colony. Complainant, Jane White, Burwood.

Lumsden. — John Thomas Shipman is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the support of his wife and family. Description : English, a labourer, about forty-five years of age, has been in the army, 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, small dark beard whiskers and moustache, dark oomplexion; fond of drink; has been about twenty-six years in New Zealand. (See Police Gazette, 1900, page 45.) He paid £5 on the 19th February, 1900, and the sum of £43 is now in arrears. His arrest is very desirable, as his wife is destitute. He was last seen in Christchurch on the 30th December, 1900.
