Stealing Otherwise than from the Person Or from Dwellings.

Auckland. — Troy (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 12th November last, of a bicycle, the property of Edward Reynolds and Go. ; value, £l2 (recovered). Offender is about twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in grey suit and straw hat; two teeth missing in lower jaw. Identifiable by John Olsen, to whom the bicycle was pawned for £2. Offender hired the bioycle for four hours, but failed to return it.

Newton (Auckland). —Charles B. Pox, mercer, reports that on the 31st ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen: Three tweed shirts, three men’s coloured galatea shirts, eight men’s fancy stripe silk tennis shirts, twelve black and coloured merino socks, a fawn-coloured Dr. Jim hat, eight men’s white-silk hem-stitched handkerchiefs with fancy initials, twelve men’s fancy silk bow ties, sixty silk Derby ties, six coloured “ Charley’s Aunt ” shirts ; total value, £l9 14s. 6d. Identification doubtful.

Newton (Auckland). —William Spedding, fancy-goods dealer, reports that between the 19th and 21st ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : Three pairs of black woollen knitted socks, five cakes “ Lily of the Valley ” soap, eight white hem-stitched handkerchiefs, four bottles of scent, two scent-sprays, and 3s. in coppers ; total value, £1 17s. Handkerchiefs only identifiable.

Surrey Hills (Auckland). —On the Ist instant there was stolen from Prank Jagger and Co.’s tannery-yard a blackleather bag, containing ninety £1 notes on the National Bank of New Zealand, thirteen half-sovereigns, and £3 in silver. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was seen by Charles Rayner, driver of a baker’s cart, running away from the tannery with something under his arm. Suspect is described as about thirty or thirty-six years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark beard whiskers and moustache; dressed in dark sac coat and black slouch hat. Identification doubtful. The bag containing the men’s pay was placed on a barrel in the yard by the manager, Henry Christmas, and was stolen during his absence. “Te Huia, Dargaville,” written in ink across the face of one of the notes in a bold band. Shortland (Thames). Edward P. Tizard and Co. report stolen from the Northern Steamship Company’s shed, on the 25th or 26th January last, two boxes of Derby tobacco, containing 20 lb. each ; value, £lO 10s. “ E.N.T. & Co.” written in black on the side of one box, also Customhouse stamp dated 15/1/01. One box only identifiable.

Tokaanu. —William Young, labourer, reports stolen, on the 26th ultimo, a gentlemen’s saddle, a patch on each side of seat, two pieces of flannel sewn over the stuffing, seams of seat partly open, rusty iron stirrups ; and a singlerein bridle, knotted at the ends, military pattern headstall: value, £2. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a Native named Te Whirl, about twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, curly hair, extremely dark complexion, negro features.

Spit (Napier). —Gideon Widerstrom, ship-chandler, reports stolen from his office, between the 29th and 31st ultimo, a double-barrelled breech - loading fowling-piece, maker’s name, “ Mader Schoolfield,” on top between the barrels, Greener bolt-action, No. 12 choke-bore, twist barrels, walnut stock, a small crack on top edge, black-bone butt with deer’s head engraved on it, two pheasants engraved on locks ; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Wanganui.— John McParlane, ironmonger, reports stolen from his garden, on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, 60 ft. of indiarubber hose, with union for tap at one end and jet with tap at the other end, both fittings bound with copper wire; value, £3. Identifiable.

Upper Hutt. —Between the Ist and sth instant there was stolen from the waiting-room of the station a yellowishcoloured hearthrug, about sft. by 2ft., with yellow fringe; value, £l.

Wellington. Harry Bennett Kennerley, oab-proprietor, reports stolen from his stables, Molesworth Street, on the 24th ultimo, a large dark-green plaid rug with fringe on ends ; value, £4 4s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Mrs. A. J. Lamb, Hay Street, reports supposed stolen from outside Kirkcaldie and Stains’s shop, on the sth instant, a ladies’ nearly new Royal Khyco bicycle, bell and brake attached, black rims, number unknown; value, £lO 10s.

Wellington. McGregor Wright and Co., Lambton Quay, report stolen from their studio, on the 31st ultimo, a minature oil-painting on ivory of a lady, with a gold or copper oval frame, about 3 in. by 2 in.; value, £lO. Suspicion attaohed to a man, name unknown, about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, fair hair and moustache, two or three days’ growth of beard and whiskers; dressed in dark sac coat and vest, light trousers, and white-straw hat. The minature belongs to Miss Olga Morgan, and was on show at the studio.

Mount Cook (Wellington).— Frank Robertson is charged on warrant with the theft, on or about the 6th November, 1900, of a camera, value £l2, the property of Thomas Stonebridge, photographic artist, Vivian Street. Offender is a native of England, about forty years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, heavy dark moustache only ; has a large lump, about the size of a duck-egg, on back of neck; generally dressed in black morning coat and vest, light trousers, and black hard hat. The camera is one of Lancaster’s patent instantographs, full plate, brass-bound, with brass plate about 6 in. square screwed on the bottom, and three small brass plates on top of soles to strengthen it, bellows relined with black calico. The camera was sent to offender at Levin in November last to take photographs there, but nothing has since been heard of him. Supposed to have gone to Auckland.

Mount Cook (Wellington). Michael Bertram McNamara, carpenter, reports stolen from the rear of a building in Arthur Street, between the 24th and 26th ultimo, a 1 in. and a in. Firmer chisel, a brace, a fin. and a £in. bit, all stamped M ; value, 12s. 6d. Identifiable.

Spring Grove. —Archibald Topgood, labourer, reports stolen, on the Ist instant, a £5 note. Not identifiable. Complainant was attending a shooting match at Tadmore, and the money was stolen from his coat, which was lying on a log. Suspicion attached to Henry Thomason, a labourer, eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, dark hair and complexion, slight dark moustache, slightly bandy-legged; dressed in grey suit, black-and-white straw hat, watertight boots; was carrying a swag, and had with him a yellow half-bred English terrier. The suspect changed a£s note at White Bros.’ store on the above date, and was making through the Buller for the West Coast.

Christchurch. —Hugh M. Morris, photographer, Colombo Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 25th ultimo, two £5 notes, three £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and 10s. in silver. Suspicion attaohed to Harry Williams. Description: English, carpenter, about twenty years of age, 5 ft. 2J in. high, medium build, sallow oomplexion, brown hair and eyes. Methven. —Charles Colwell, labourer, reports stolen from the Methven Stables, Springfield Estate, between the 21st and 28th ultimo, a brown-leather purse, containing two £5 notes, numbers unknown, and seven sovereigns ; also a gold chain with round and twisted links: value, £1 10s.

Dunedin. —Alexander Stone, labourer, reports stolen from the railway-station, on the 28th ultimo, a brown-paper parcel, containing a gentlemen’s black cashmere semi-dress suit; value, £3. Identifiable.

Dunedin. —Robert Kedington Rodwell reports stolen from his cabin on the ship “Auckland,” at Dunedin Wharf, on the 20th ultimo, a silver keyless open-faced watch, R.K.R. on outside of case, number and maker unknown ; a silver chain with one long and three small round links, an electro-plated match-box and halfpenny at one end, bar in centre, two silver medals attached with “ R. K. Rodwell ” on them ; value, £l. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, dark moustache and hair; dressed in blue double-breasted coat and trousers.
