Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1899, page 231.) Auckland. —Henry Thomas Spain, or Spayne, charged with failing to support his children, has been arrested by Constable E. T. Howell, Huntly police, and remanded to Auckland.
Palmerston North.— John Henry Cole is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future support of his unborn illegitimate child. Description : Supposed colonial, about twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, dark hair, dark moustache or may now be clean-shaved, fair complexion, thinnish features, good-looking, pleasant manners;
may be wearing a light-tweed suit and soft black-felt hat. Was employed by the Wellington and Manawatu Bailway Company. Last seen in Wellington on the 16th ultimo, and will probably endeavour to leave the colony. Complainant, Minnie Whitmarsh, Longburn.
(See Police Gazette, 1899, page 156.) Wellington. —Alfred Toy, charged with disobeying a maintenance order, has paid the amount to Constable G. Bowden, Pahiatua polioe, on execution of the warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 221.) Wellington. —Thomas Trudgeon, charged with disobeying an order of the Court for the support of his wife and children: This warrant has been suspended, Trudgeon having paid a portion of the amount due.
Christchurch.— William Menlove Dawes is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court, made on the 20th May, 1898, to pay 10s. a week towards the support of his wife, Ethel Mayne Dawes. For his description, see Police Gazette, 1899, page 23. He left Nelson on the 2nd ultimo by the s.s. “ Takapuna ” for Auckland, supposed en route to South Australia.
Christchurch.— John Napier is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay 10s. per week towards the support of his wife, Amy Napier. Description : Scotch, a blacksmith, fifty-two years of age, 5 ft. 4Jin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown eyes, light-brown beard and moustache, lump on right little finger, scar on right temple. (See Police Gazette, 1897, pages 41 and 162.) He was £2 10s. in arrears on the 10th ultimo.
Christchurch. — William Burton is charged on warrant with failing to support his illegitimate child. Description : Twenty-one years of age, sft. Sin. high, stout build, fair complexion hair and moustache, scar near right temple ; dressed in a brown-tweed sac-suit and brown Alpine hat; a railway employe. Complainant, Jessie Isabella Manson, Broadfield, Lincoln. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 209.) Dunedin. —Charles Harding, charged with disobeying an order of Court for the support of his wife, has been arrested by Constable T. Hickey.
