Auckland. — Maud Osborne is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Gaol for fourteen days’ labour, on conviction for vagrancy. Description : A native of Sydney, a prostitute, about twenty years of age, sft. 3 in. high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes. The warrant was suspended to allow her to leave the colony, and she left for Sydney on the 3rd ultimo. If she returns the warrant is to be executed.

Neville and D. Dorrick, charged with the theft of John Moore’s gum, have been arrested by Constable C. Stanyer, Otorohanga police, and remanded to Pukekohe. Case dismissed. Gum not recovered. (See Police Gazette, 1897, page 155, and 1898, page 39.) Huntly.— James Murphy, charged with false pretences on James Montgomery, has been arrested by Constable H. Hobson, Mercer police.

New Plymouth. — J. O’Neil is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 7th ultimo, of a gentlemen’s RudgeWhitworth bicycle, No. 22989 on underside of bottom crank bracket, No. 8 on inside of front fork, Westwood rim on front wheel with plain Dunlop tire, solid rim and non-slipping Dunlop tire on back wheel, mud-guard, Brook’s 817 saddle, rat-trap pedals, value, £l2; the property of Leonard Maxwell Taunton. Offender is supposed English, twenty-eight to thirty years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, dark complexion, shaved except dark moustache; dressed in a dark-serge or black-cloth suit, and soft dark-felt hat. He hired the bicycle for the day, but has failed to return it.

Hunterville.— Andrew Barry, charged with the theft of William Louis Young’s saddle, has been arrested by Constables Abbott and Forster, Levin and Foxton police, and remanded.

Feilding. — Mick Murry alias C. Murry is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace (Wellington) Gaol for thirty days’ hard labour in default of paying £6 18s. 4d., fine and costs for trespassing on the Feilding Racecourse and refusing to leave. Description : A native of the colony, a spieler, has been a telegraphist, about thirty years of age, sft. Sin. high, slight build, sallow complexion, shaved except black moustache, dark eyes, stooped shoulders; usually dresses in a blue-sergo suit and hard black hat worn at back of head. Has a brother, a saddler, in Wellington. Offender is supposed to have gone to Sydney.

Palmerston North.— Max Bernard Just is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 22nd ultimo, of a bicycle, the property of G. H. Bycroft and Go. He is described as a native of New Zealand, German parentage, eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in a new dark-tweed suit, soft black-felt hat, and patent-leather slippers. Was seen in Wellington on the 26th ultimo, and spoke of going to Sydney. The bicycle is a Viking, no name-plate, No. 1249, blackenamelled frame, spokes painted blue, wooden rims, Christy saddle, drop handles ; value, £lO. He hired it on the morning of the above date and should have returned it the same evening, but has not done so.

Nelson.— George Williams, alias King, alias Hope, is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 24th ultimo, of a New Zealand Humber bicycle, maker John Charles Mercer, Nelson, front wheel 30 in., back wheel 28in., B.S.A. parts, enamel scratched off front, turned-down handles, 78 gear, patch on back tire, no break, bell, or mudguards; value, £l2 ; the property of William John Mill. Offender is supposed a native of the colony, eighteen or nineteen years of age, about 5 ft, 6 in. high, medium build, clean-shaved, sallow complexion, brown hair, soar on right cheek close to mouth, scar at back of head, one upper front tooth missing; dressed in a dark-blue sac-suit, soft dark cap, and tan canvas shoes. He obtained the bicycle on trial but failed to return it, and is supposed to have gone overland to the West Coast, or to Blenheim.
