Deserters from Her Majesty’s Service.
From. H.M.S. “ Torch.” at Auckland. On 4th August, 1898. Joseph Cassidy, stoker, Irish, thirty-one years of age, 5 ft. in. high, fresh complexion, dark-brown curly hair, blue eyes, prominent nose, scar over left eye, across left hand, and over left forefinger. (See Police Gazette, 1898, page 68.) A reward of £3 is offered for his arrest, in addition to £5 from the Colonial Government.
/ (See Police Gazette, 1897, pages 181 and 191; and ’ 1898, page 38.) Joseph Cant, deserter from H.M.S. “Pylades,” has been arrested by Constable Mcllveney and Detective McMahon, Auckland police, and placed on board the “ Torch.” Offender was going under the name of Joseph Barnes.
