Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

(See Police Gazette, 1898, page 121.) v Pukekohe. —Adam Madill’s horse has been found dead on his farm. Suspicion of stealing it is therefore removed from Percy Bowers.

Mercer. James Thomas Smith, farmer, Razorback, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 18ch and 19th ultimo, a light-bay filly, light-draught breed, nine months four white feet, blaze down face, unbranded; value, £6. Te Puke. —W. R. Wihapi reports stolen, on the 2nd March last, a bay mare, half-draught, two years and a half old, about 16 hands high, slit in top of near ear, shod all round, no brands; value, £l2. Suspicion attached to David Christie, who left the locality on the following day, supposed for the Waihi Goldfields. Description : Scotch, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. Sin. or 9 in. high, dark-grey eyes, dark complexion, dark hair whiskers and moustache, thin features, slight build, round shoulders, never looks at a person when speaking, a gold-prospector; usually wears leggings. Said he had an uncle in Coromandel and another in the Waikato.

Opunake. —Hemi Ratahi, Opua, reports stolen, about the 20th June last, a red cow, about four years old, near calving, white patch on face, branded NP on right rump, top off right ear, square out of top side of left ear and end partly cut off and hanging down; also a three-year-old heifer, forward in calf, all red except small whit 9 spots on belly, similar brand and ear-marks: value, £9. Suspicion attached to William Woods, who has since been arrested for cattlestealing.

Opunake. —A. Good, farmer, Oeo, reports stolen at Opua, about the 20th June last, a roan heifer, about two years old, in good condition, forward in calf, branded ER2 on one rump; value, about £3. Suspicion attached to William Woods, referred to in the preceding notice.

Ashiiurst. —Gordon Hartley, Pohangina, reports stolen, on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, a yellowish-brown gelding, hack breed, five years old, 15J hands high, black stripe down back, small star on forehead, shod all round, no brands, in good condition ; value, £9.
