Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.
New Plymouth. Miss Margaret Bilton reports stolen from her at the railway platform, on the 6th instant, a blackleather bag-purse, fastened with twisted brass knobs, containing a half-crown, and a ladies’ gold ring, composed of three bars, with an amethyst stone on top; value, £3. Reported to the Onehunga police.
Tolaga Bay.— Michael Mullooly reports stolen from him while at the Argyle Hotel, Gisborne, between the 29th ultimo and 2nd instant, twelve £5 notes on the Bank of New South A A Wales. Numbers may run from =5 8037 to = 8048, or from B jj

Levin. —John Jones, labourer, Shannon, reports that on the 9th instant his whare was broken into, and the following stolen: A double-barrelled muzzle-loading gun, 14 and 16 bore, one guard in middle of barrel for ramrod, nipples very open, odd hammers, the left one will not stay cocked; value, £2.
Masterton. —William Shaw, secondhand-dealer, reports that on the 10th or 11th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : About fifty silver watches, of which only two can be described—viz., a silver Geneva open,faced, very small, No. 155119; and an open-faced silver No. 40097—the others being Botherams, Stewart Dawson and Oo.’s, Ehrhardt, Geneva, and Waterbury ; a gold chain; a ladies’gold necklet; six gold rings—viz., one set with a dark stone and having a piece chipped off it, one with a yellow stone, and the others with red stones; a ladies’ gold brooch and earrings, horseshoe design; a ladies’ gold brooch and earrings, ship’s-wheel design; a ladies’ gold chain, acorn pattern; a ladies’ gold chain, small pattern, with three balls ; a gentlemen’s gold chain, long links, with short links between ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with eight small diamonds; and some gold and silver brooches, of which no description can be given : value, in all, about £IOO.
Wellington.— John George Hansen, carpenter, 210, Taranaki Street, reports stolen from the Working-men’s Club, on the 10th instant, a grey-check waterproof sleeveless overcoat, cape attached, chain tab, nearly new; value, £3.
Kanieri. —John O’Neil, miner, Back Creek, reports that on the sth instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: Two gold rings—viz., one with heart and hand engraved thereon, the other inlaid with a whitish stone ; value, £1 10s. each.
Kaiapoi. —Joseph Chaney, labourer, reports stolen from his dwelling, between the 6th and Bth instant, a pair of pepper-and-salt tweed trousers, size 5, nearly new, having two front pockets and one hip-pocket; a brown-and-white shirt with turndown collar ; a pair of black-canvas shoes, size 6 ; a pair of grey-wool socks, a brown-and-white-striped woollen shirt with turndown collar, and a white cotton shirt without collar. Suspicion attached to a swagger, between forty-five and fifty years of age, about 6 ft. high, stout build, light-brown hair turning grey, fair whiskers beard and moustache, cast in left eye ; wore a dark-tweed saccoat, patched on the back, and old soft brown-felt hat ; carried a large tent-swag. Can be identified. Went north.
Christchurch. — John Kennedy, warder, Lunatic Asylum, reports that between, the 7th and 12th instant his dwelling f in Spencer Street, Addington, was broken into, and the ' -following stolen; A wedding dress, a toque bonnet, a sheet, VpA ome mantelpiece ornaments, a net antimacassar, two & photograph-frames, a fawn-coloured dress, a navy-blue serge a mackintosh, brown jacket, silk blouse, winter hat, / a white-muslin dress with stripes and blue flowers, a navyblue felt hat trimmed with red-satin ribbon, a brown-cloth jacket, pair of dark-brown kid gloves, and a white-damask table-cloth, dotted pattern ; value, £lO.

Christchurch. — Breaking into and stealing from Ellen Bryant’s dwelling: Agnes Murray has been arrested by Constables Cassels and Fahey on the above and other similar charges, and convicted. Bing only recovered.

Dunbdki. — Alexander Johnston, charged with stealing John Popham’s watch, has been arrested by Chief Detective 1/1 and sentenced to one month’s labour. Offender’s is Alexander Ogg. Watch not yet recovered.
Ophir.- —Donald G. Gunn, hotelkeeper, Chatto Creek,
reports stolen, on the sth instant, a ladies’ silver Geneva watch, maker Mathey, number unknown, case / engraved, rim for -glass missing, and otherwise out of .-/repair; value, £l. Suspicion attached to Edward Terry, St colonial, a labourer, about twenty-nine years of age, complexion, shaved except dark moustache, heavy dark eyebrows. Working near Chatto Creek.
