Hawera. —Matthew McNelies is charged on warrant that he, having been adjudged/tonkfLpt, from his creditors on the 7th AjoriL years of age, 5 ft. 9An. MgMAvell inclined to stoop, dark beard eyes, pushy eyebrows, 12 stone weight, walka/siifowly, qnD't; manner; usually wears a grey-tweed trousers and vest, coloured shirt, hard black hat, and black tie; a saddler by trade. Last heard of at Auckland on the 30th ultimo, when he spoke of going to the gumfjelcls. Reported by the Auckland police. /

Wanganui. —John Willison is charged on warrant with having, on the 14th April, 1898, obtained £ll from John Brennan, hotelkeeper, by false pretences. Offender is a quarter-caste Maori, a farmer and survey hand, thirty years of age, sft. Sin. high, rather stout build, dark complexion, large dark eyes, dark-brown moustache and sidewhiskers ; usually wears a dark-grey or brown suit, and soft drab-felt hat; professes to be in search of a publichouse to purchase. He induced complainant to cash his cheque for £ll on the Bank of New Zealand, Waitotara. The cheque was dishonoured, accused having only 6d. to his credit; and it appears he was made aware of the state of his account on the 31st March last, but has since drawn cheques to the amount of £326 10s. He was seen in Wellington about three weeks ago, and in Christchurch a few days later.

Dannevirke. —Archibald McAlister, charged with vagrancy, was arrested on the 14th instant by Constable A. P. Gordon, Napier police, he having returned to the Hawke’s

Christchurch.— H., alias John, O’Hagan is charged onf warrant with false protences on George jQueree,jailor, Lincoln Road, on the 19th April, 1898. labourer, twenty-one years of age, 5 build, fair complexion, fair hair, none an Mefce ; dressed in a soft drab-felt hat, and a striped which he obtained from complainant by he was employed by a Mr. McCarthy. He/Vent taTimaru, where his father resides, and is supposed ternave gone thence to Blenheim or the North Island.

Ashburton. —James Henry Roberts, charged with obtaining £lO from Robert Alexander by means of a valueless cheque, has been arrested by Constable G. R. Broberg, Wellington police, and remanded to Ashburton.

Melbourne.— Cyril Ismay, charged with embezzling £BO, money of Sali Cleve, has been arrested by the Castlemaina police. (See Victoria Police Gazette, 1898, page 82.)

Sydney.— lsabella Tooth is charged on warrant with the larceny, on the 16th March, 1898, of three beds .and bedding, nine chairs, two tables, some oilcloth, crockery, and kitchen utensils, value about £4O, the property of her husband, Hedley Tooth. Description: Thirty-one years of age, 5 ft. 1 in. high, stoutish build, darkish hair and eyes, dark complexion ; a native of Ipswich, Queensland. Accused, her son, six years old, and her paramour, William Taylor, left Sydney for Auckland in the s.s. “ Westralia” on the above date, she going under the assumed name of Mrs. McLean ; but no trace of her can now be found by the Auckland police. Taylor is described as forty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 11 in. high, stooping shoulders, swaggering gait, reddish hair moustache and side-levers ; dressed in a blue-serge suit ; a miner by occupation. Prosecutor’s main object in obtaining the warrant for his wife’s arrest is to obtain possession of his son, and if she should consent to send him back to Sydney by the first steamer her arrest is not desirable. It is requested that every effort may be made to trace her, and if any information is obtained it should be communicated to the Commissioner’s Office, Wellington, before enforcing the warrant.
