Auckland. Richard Powell, cook, s.s. “ Rotomahana,” trading to Thames, reports stolen from the vessel, at the Queen Street Wharf, Auckland, on the 22nd ultimo, an English silver lever hunting - watch, maker Ahearth, No. 63595, “ R.P.” on outside and inside of case ; and a gold chain, long-bar pattern, with three small links between, to which was attached a gold-mounted opal, cracked across the centre, small gold bar running down the front, and a piece of gold inscribed “ H.B to R.P.” at the back : value, £ls 10s.

, Auckland. —W T alter Taylor, Karangahape Road, reports stolen from a dressing-room at the fresh-water baths, Albert Street, on the 25th ultimo, a gentleman’s silver keyless hunting cylinder - watch, No. 89213, makers Stewart, Dawson, and Co. ; and a silver chain : value, £5.

Gisborne. —Michael Wallen is charged on warrant with the theft, at Matawhero, on the Ist or 2nd ultimo, of a bridle, value £l, the property of Robert Parkinson, labourer. Recovered. Offender is Irish, a labourer, about thirty years of age, sft. lOin. high, medium build, dark hair and moustache only ; dressed in an old dark suit, and hard black-felt hat.

Napier. —Arthur Herbert Barnett, railway-clerk, reports stolen from his clothing at the Western Spit, on the 21st ultimo, a lady’s gold open-faced watch, number unknown, “ E. D. Rowbottom ” engraved inside case, and a gentleman’s gold chain, curb pattern, links stamped 18c., with bell-shaped seal (A.M.F.) attached ; value, £2O.

New Plymouth. —Edward Lionel Nathan, Devon Street, reports that between the 16th and 18th ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : Two tweed suits of clothes, size 6, two metal albert chains, and a white-straw hat, size 7 ; value, £5.

Hawera. Frederick Fantham, farmer, reports stolen from off his horse, on the 31st December, 1896, an English saddle, large knee-pads, right one slightly torn, bright Ds, two missing behind thigh-pads, one stirrup large rusty iron, the other nickel, ordinary size, double-folding leather girth, three girth-fasteners on each side of saddle, brown saddlecloth, showing marks where fancy-work has been picked out.

Lower Hutt. Stealing William Ross’s bicycle: A young man arrived from Wellington by the 10.45 p.m. train

on the 26th ultimo, and rode the .stolen bicycle in the direction of the Wairarapa. He is described as about nineteen years of age, about sft. Bin high, brown hair, no hair on face ; dressed in a rough tweed knicker-bocker suit, between light and dark colour, coat having a plait down the back and a belt, lace-up boots, and straw hat. The bicycle is now said to have a new seat.

Wellington. —George Allen, fitter, at Mason, Struthers, and Co., Christchurch, reports stolen from outside the Central Hotel, Wellington, on the 22nd ultimo, a gentleman’s union bicycle, nearly new, iron rims, Dunlop tires, “ Mason, Struthers, and Co., Christchurch,” in small gold letters on front bar ; value, £l7 10s.

Lyttelton. —Arthur Sargison, A. 8., ship “ Wellington,” reports stolen from his bunk, on the 22nd ultimo, a silver Geneva lever open-faced keyless watch, No. 64978, maker’s name unknown; value, £1 15s. The ship left for London on the following day with complainant on board.

Christchurch. John Thomas Priestwell, 164, High Street, reports that, on the 15th or 16th ultimo, his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : One gross of waxmatches in cardboard boxes, four packs of colonial playingcards, two silver-mounted wooden pipes with straight stems and amber mouthpieces, six common wooden pipes, twenty barbers’ puffs, and a quantity of tobacco, cigars, and cigarettes ; total value, £2O Bs. 6d.
