Auckland.—-Henry Cuthbertson is charged on warrant with the theft, on the sth, 13th, and 29th August last respectively, of £5 3s. lid., £1 16s. 10d., and £3 Is. 9d., moneys of John Lawson, Official Assignee in bankruptcy. Description : Scotch, about forty-one years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, full dark whiskers neatly trimmed, stoops slightly ; usually wears a walking-coat, hard-felt hat, and dark-tweed trousers. Offender, who carried on the business of a grain merchant in Durham Street, was adjudged a bankrupt on the 4th August, 1896, and received the above-mentioned sums, but failed to account for them to the Assignee. His defalcations amount to about £7O, and he is further charged with falsifying his books.

Auckland. —Henry Putland, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying a fine and costs, has been arrested by Constable W. J. Rist, Whitianga police, and conveyed to Auckland Gaol.
Pukekohe. —Arthur Samuel Crawford is charged on warrant with having assaulted Ethel, a school-girl, on the 23rd ultimo. Description: Supposed Irish, thirty five to forty years of age, sft. 4m. high, stout build, sallow complexion, light - sandy or reddish beard whiskers and moustache,
peculiar manner, talks to himself; wore a grey-tweed suit and straw hat with large leaf. Has been in a lunatic asylum.
Napier. —William Boyle has disobeyed the terms of his release under “ The First Offenders’ Probation Act, 1886,” by failing to report himself. Description : A native of New Zealand, a blacksmith, thirty-eight years of age, sft. B£in. high, sandy complexion, dark auburn hair, blue eyes, large nose, strong build, retreating chin, rather bow-legged, right thumb-nail split, scar on left ear, nose, &c. (See Police Gazette, 1896, pages 120 and 123 ) He reported himself at Wailii during September last, saving he was going to Te Puke, but has not been seen there or heard from since. His wife lives in Hawera. Information as to his whereabouts is requested by the Probation Officer, Napier.
Hastings. —George E. Hayes is charged (no warrant) with the theft, on the 2nd ultimo, of a colonial-made saddle, each flap having a patch from cantle downwards; a solid leather girth, stirrup-leathers worn thin at edges, large ovalshaped nickel irons with three bars and flat bottoms, a blue saddle-cloth tied to the saddle with leather laces, and a very thin black-leather double-reined bridle with silver-plated bit; value, £3 55.; the property of Alexander Clarus Lean, liverystable keeper. Hayes is supposed English, a station-cadet, about twenty-eight years of age, about 6ft. high, slender build, black hair, rather prominent Roman nose, long thin face, bad front teeth, clean-shaved, constantly smokes cigarettes ; horsey dress, drab breeches with leggings to match, very open vest showing plenty of shirt-front; has a black mackintosh cape, and is riding a roan mare in good condition. He borrowed the saddlery so as to be able to ride home to Te Mata Station, where he was working, but took it away with him from Te Mata on the above-mentioned date. If his whereabouts is ascertained the Hastings police should be at once informed, and complainant will then lay an information for theft.

Invercargill. John Mackay, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying a fine, has been arrested at Dunedin by Constable W. B. Mcllveney, Invercargill police.
