(See Police Gazette, 1896, page 175.) Ohingaiti. —Ernest Haskill, alias E. J. Reid, charged with stealing Aron Johanson’s mare (recovered), has been arrested by Constable J. Shearman, Wanganui police, and remanded.
(See Police Gazette, 1896, pages 175 and 184.) Moawhango. —Mark Egerton’s horse has been recovered by Constable J. Shearman, Wanganui police, and traced to the possession of Ernest Haskill, alias Edward James Reid, who has been committed for trial for the offence. The saddle and bridle have not been recovered.
Ormond (Poverty Bay).— William McWilliams, labourer, Waerenga-a-hika, reports stolen from a paddock at Toroa, on the 31st October or Ist November last, a chestnut gelding, hack breed, branded HG on near side of neck, white blaze down face, white spot on off side of rump, near fore foot and both hind feet white, unshod ; value, £lO.
Woodville. —George Mee Hardie, commercial traveller, 62, Adelaide Road, Wellington, reports stolen at Woodville, on the 28th ultimo, a grey gelding, twelve years old, 16 hands high, hind quarters dappled, long tail, off fore hoof split, no visible brand, inclined to stand over on off fore legs, girth-galled, hair worn on sides and shoulders ; value, £lO.
Martinborough. —John Gallie, storekeeper, reports stolen, between the 20th and 24th ultimo, a dark-chestnut ponymare, seven years old, 14 hands high, long tail, near fore foot white, no brands, one shoe off ; value, £lO.
Palmerston North. —Percy Tapper, alias A. Douglas, alias McNeill, is charged on warrant with the theft, at Jackytown, on the 23rd ultimo, of a mare, saddle, and bridle;
value, £10; the property of Michael Noonan, labourer. Recovered. Offender is supposed English, twenty-one years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, slight build, brown hair, very small moustache only; dressed in a black-serge coat and vest, dark-grey trousers, soft brown-felt hat with small brim, and blucher boots. He is supposed to have gone towards Wanganui. Lincoln. —Alfred Stace, farmer, Springston, reports stolen, on the 16th or 17th ultimo, a dark-brown draught gelding, four years old, about 15£ hands high, white blaze down face, wall-eyed on near side, off hind foot white, splinters on fore legs, shod on fore feet, short tail, cobby appearance, no brands; value, £l6.
Leeston. —Frank Jackson, Irwell, reports stolen from a paddock, about the Ist instant, twenty freezing-wethers, half and three-quarter bred, four- and six-toothed, branded J in a half-circle in red ; value, 12s. 6d. each.
Timaru. —Thomas Lysaght, farmer, Pleasant Valley, reports stolen from the Melville Hotel stables, Timaru, on the 20th ultimo, a mouse-coloured hack mare, nine years old, 14J hands high, white star on forehead, white mark on neck, square-cut tail, shod all round, a good trotter; value, £l2. Reported to the Geraldine police.
