Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Shortland (Thames). George Fisher, carter, Kopu, reports stolen from the stable of the Shortland Hotel, on the 6th instant, a black pony gelding, five years old, 14 hands high, branded NP on rump; had on a colonial saddle, nearly new, branded DK beneath flap, an old single-rein bridle with snaffle bit, and black japanned brow-band; reins sewn on to bit; total value, £9.
(See Police Gazette, 1896, page 102.) Rotorua.—Herbert McDonald’s mare has been found. (See Police Gazette, 1896, page 39.) Waitotara.—William Brewer’s cows have been found. (See Police Gazette, 1895, page 100.) Gisborne. —William King’s horse has been found by Constable A. Beddell, Tolago Bay police, on Native land at Mangaheia. The brand had been defaced by putting BX over the original one.
. Upper Hutt.—Frank Wilkie, storekeeper, reports stolen (supposed), about the 4th instant, a bay gelding, aged, hands high, black points, bard lump the size of a small egg behind saddle ; value, £lO. Complainant states he lent the horse to a man named Thomas Donnelly to ride to Kaitoke, where be was to have left it with a Mr. Whiteman, but did not do so, and neither man nor horse have since been heard of. Donnelly is described as a colonial, about thirty-five years of age, sft. Bin. high, slight build, sallow complexion, clean-shaved except fairish moustache; wore a dark-tweed sac suit and soft black felt hat. He also borrowed a saddle from George H. Langdon, hotelkeeper, and a bridle from Mr. Keys, butcher. It is supposed that he is identical with Thomas James Donnelly, who is charged, on warrant issued by the Foxton Bench, with stealing Bobert Kingston Simpson’s watch.
