(See Police Gazette, 1895, page 9.) Auckland. —John Shannon, charged with assault on William John Watts, has been arrested by Detective T. O’Brien, Oamaru police, and lodged in Oamaru Police Gaol.

Auckland. —Ralph Harris, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying £1 95., balance of fine and costs, for assaulting his wife. This offender is further charged on warrant, issued at the suit of the Auckland Charitable Aid Board, with having deserted his four children under the age of fourteen years.

Inglewood. William Goss, charged with embezzling forty pounds’ worth of boots, the property of William Webber, has been arrested by Chief-Detective W. Campbell, Wellington police, and remanded to New Plymouth.
Ohingaiti. —John Connell, alias Thomas Dean, is charged on warrant with the theft as a bailee, on the 4th instant, of a metal Geneva watch (since recovered), value £1; the property of William Oliver, watchmaker. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-five years of age, sft. 3in. high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, red moustache only; wore a dark-serge sac-coat, dark-tweed trousers, no vest, and soft-felt light hat.
Christchurch. —George Wilson is charged on warrant with false pretences on William Lenhart, baker, Colombo Street, Sydenham, on the 26th ultimo. Offender is a Norwegian, about forty-five years of age, sft. llin. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, fair moustache only ; dressed in a light-grey sac-suit, soft brown-felt hat; speaks English fairly well; is well known at Timaru and Little River. He obtained £5 from complainant by falsely representing that Mr. Wynn Williams, of Christchurch, had £4OO of his money, and that Mrs. Winkler, of Timaru, had £4O.
Coalgate. —Samuel Allen, alias Gray, is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for six weeks’ labour in default of payment of £2 6s. lOd. fine and costs for theft of apples from John Cress well, Waiareka Station. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, about twentyseven years of age, about sft. Bin. high, medium build, fair complexion, blue eyes, very light-brown hair, very little hair on face ; quiet manners and sober habits; generally neatly dressed in blue serge coat and vest and hard black hat.
Oxford. —Alexander Embrose is charged on warrant with having, on the 30th ultimo, obtained from Frederick A. Waterman, storekeeper, East Oxford, by a false pretence, 10s. in money, a pair of grey-tweed trousers, large plaid pattern, size 6 ; an Oxford shirt and a pair of Sampson braces : total value, £llos. 9d. Offender is a native of England, a sailor, twenty-eight years of age, about sft. 7in. high, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, brown moustache and goatee, A. E. and a wreath tattooed on one of his arms; dressed in grey-tweed trousers and brown sac tweed coat, blucher boots, and dark soft-felt hat with broad band. Offender falsely represented that he was working for Walter Barnes, of Waimakariri, and thus obtained the money and goods. He is supposed to have gone North.
Geraldine. —George Johnson is charged on warrant with having, on the 28th ultimo, obtained from Robert Henry Pearpoint, by false pretences, a suit of Kaiapoi-tweed clothes, size 4, large brown-check pattern, a soft black-felt hat, size 6s, a maroon-coloured silk tie, a shirt with white body and blue-striped front and wristbands, and a pair of shoes with fancy toe-caps and stitching round front seams; value, in all, £3 4s. Offender is described as English or colonial, twenty-four or twenty-five years of age, sft. 6in. or 7in. high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown beard whiskers and moustache, the latter of about a month’s growth; dressed in a Cardigan jacket, old soft black-felt hat, and patched dark-tweed trousers, or may be wearing the garments above described. He falsely represented that he was working for William Earl, of Kakahu, on whom he gave a valueless order for the amount.
Dunedin. Charles Morgan, also known as Charles Huslemann, Charles Schmidt, or German Charley, is charged on warrant with false pretences on James Liston, licensee, Central Hotel, on the 28th ultimo. Offender is a German, thirty-six years of age, about sft. lOin. high, stout muscular build, fair complexion, small fair moustache, high cheek-bones, German cast of features, scar near corner of left eye, extensive tattoo marks on right arm, including heart and female figure and a date ; has been in the German Navy, and was working lately at Tinker’s gold-mining; boasts of his pugilistic abilities, and is fond of engaging in trials of strength in bending his arms; frequents publichouses, and associates with prostitutes. He obtained £lO by means of a valueless cheque on the Bank of New South Wales, in which bank he falsely represented he had an account.
