Auckland. —Percy and George Foster, grocers, Parnell, report that on the Ist or 2nd instant their store was broken into, and the following stolen : About 201 b. of Derby, Ascot, Victory, and Challenge tobacco; two large boxes of Three Castles cigarettes ; and 2s. in coppers : value, £lO 2s. The “ Challenge ” tobacco is of a rough inferior quality, and complainants think they could identify it.

H.M.S. “ Ringarooma ” (Auckland). William B. McDonald, Lieutenant, reports stolen from his cabin on the night of the 18th instant a plain silver oblong sovereignpurse (would hold five sovereigns on each side), and £7 10s. in gold. Suspicion attached to Young, the ward steward. Description: a native of England, forty-three years of age, about sft. Sin. high, thickset, pale face, very dark beard whiskers and moustache ; still on board the ship. Total value, £ll.

Kamo. —Stolen from the Prospectors’ Battery, Puhipuhi silverfield, between the 12th and 23rd ultimo, one threesheave iron endless-chain block, with about 60ft. of chain, lifts 2 tons ; one Welton’s endless-chain block, with chain to fit, lifts £ ton; one set of stocks and dies, from gin. to lin., about twelve in number; one Price’s timber-jack, kauri stock; four short-handled miners’ shovels, branded PC; one handsaw; one sft. 6in. iron crowbar ; one 6ft. iron cleaning-rod; one 7ft. crosscut saw; one lightning saw, 4ft. in length; one camp-oven, 15in. in diameter; six dozen dynamite cartridges and thirty caps; one grindstone, 20in. diameter and 4in. wide; a timber stand for same, made of 4in. by [3in. timber, American iron rollers ; one 6ft. copper

tamping-rod, about gin. diameter; one threefold iron block, and one twofold ditto. Mostly all identifiable. Value £25. The property of John Chambers, Fort Street, Auckland.

Cambridge (Waikato). —Mahutu, Maori King, reports stolen from a safe in the Maungakawa meeting-house, on the 24th ultimo, £l7B in sovereigns and half-sovereigns. £lll in notes and about forty pounds’ worth of silver were left untouched.

Inglewood. —Edward Vickers, auctioneer, reports that on the 7th or Bth instant his store was broken into, and the following stolen: Six white single blankets, yellow and blue stripes at the ends; four grey blankets; and one blackstriped blanket; very common quality: value, £5 10s. Identification doubtful.

Napier. —Charles Palmer, Emerson Street, reports stolen from his stables, on the 28th ultimo, four £1 notes. Suspicion attached to William Henry Mitchell, an Englishman, twenty-eight years of age, a cook, about sft. Bin. high, rather stout build, brown hair, fair moustache only. Living in Napier.

Waipawa. —Thomas Parkinson, hotelkeeper, reports stolen from a skittle alley, about the Bth March last, a huntingsaddle, colonial made, nearly new, small knee-pads (standing out), old stirrup-leathers, very large nickel-plated stirrupirons, round-leather girth, stamped “Cosgrove,” darkcoloured breastplate; and a double-reined bridle with heavy nickel-plated bit: buckles and stirrup-irons are horse-shoe pattern : value, £8 10s.

Greytown North. —During the night of the 7th instant the railway-station was broken into, and the following stolen : Five yards of cretonne ; a boys’ grey Norfolk-tweed suit, with cap to match; six toilet-covers, various sizes; twelve cards of linen buttons, eight blotting-pads, six photo-graph-frames, two pairs of girls’ drawers, two children’s schoolbags, seven tins of tooth-powder, six Calvert’s ditto, one dozen eucalyptus, one dozen Irish moss, three towels, and three Ingram’s enemas : value £6 13s. lOd. The property of the New Zealand Government. Also a black-leather bag, about 15in. long, strapped to a small brown haversack, and addressed “ A. Durham, Greytown.”

Wellington. —Henry Dryden, Karori, reports stolen from his refreshment-rooms, on the 23rd or 24th ultimo, a Fear’s “ Peerless ” hand sewing-machine, value £5 55.; and a large feather bolster, value 10s.

Wellington. —Charles Cathie, clothier, Manners Street, reports that on the 3rd or 4th instant his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : Six pairs of men’s dark-tweed trousers, size 6 ; and five boys’ dark-tweed suits, size 4. All slop-made. Value, £2O.

Christchurch.— -Daniel Gow, grocer, Waltham Road, Sydenham, reports stolen from an outhouse, on the 26th or 27th ultimo, six Forfar tea-towels, one large bath-towel, one honeycombed and one Turkish ditto, a men’s blue-and-white-striped cotton shire; a white tablecloth, medium size ; a ladies’ grey-flannel chemise, with dark streak ; a blue-and-white cotton quilt, three boys’ sailor collars, some Forfar aprons and linen handkerchiefs, a zinc bath and tin dish : value, about £2.

Christchurch.— Henry Barker, 70, Kingsley Street, Sydenham, reports stolen from off a clothes-line, on the 4th instant, a pair of men’s merino drawers, drab-coloured, nearly new; a grey-flannel undershirt; and a ladies’ redflannelette chemise: value, 12s. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, about thirty-five years of age, about sft. Bin. high, medium build, reddish beard whiskers and moustache ; wore a light soft-felt hat and fawn-coloured coat. Can be identified.

Christchurch.— Harold Giles, clerk, St. Albans, reports stolen from the Drillslied, about three months ago, a breechloading carbine, No. 1412 ; value, £2.

Rangiora. Sloane Brothers, farmers, Ohoka, report stolen from a shed at Fernside, between the 30tli ultimo and 4tli instant, a sack of red-clover seed ; value, £6.

Rakaia. Charles Albert Creery Hardy reports that on the 13th or 14th ultimo his store was broken into, and a silver open-faced keyless watch, German manufacture, stolen; value, £2 ss.

Greymouth. —James Quinlan and John Downie report stolen from their claim at Maher’s Creek, Barrytown, on the 29th or 30th ultimo, a quantity of wash-dirt, containing about forty pounds’ worth of gold.

Reefton. —Joseph Blackshaw, miner, reports stolen from beside his cottage, on the Buller Road, on the night of the 21st ultimo, ten sheets of corrugated iron, sft. and 6ft. lengths ; value, £1 7s. 6d.
