Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland. Frederick Tomlinson, licensee, Exchange Hotel, Parnell, reports that during the night of the 23rd ultimo his premises were broken into, and £lO in notes, gold, and silver stolen from the safe, the key of which was taken from his bedroom ; also a small brown-leather bag, containing several silver and copper coins with holes in them. Suspicion attached to three men who were in the hotel on the forenoon of the above date. Description: First, about forty years of age, about sft. Bin. high, stout build, clean - shaved except beavy sandy moustache, red face ; dressed in a dark-blue serge suit, and hard black-felt hat. Second, about twenty-eight years of age, about sft. Gin. high, medium build, short sandy side-whiskers and moustache ; wore a dark suit and small straw hat. Third, about twenty-six years of age, about sft. 7in. high, sandy whiskers and moustache, medium build ; dressed in dark clothes, and hard black-felt hat. All identifiable.

Auckland. —Bernard Donovan, cab-driver, Ponsonby, reports that on the 23rd ultimo his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A pair of gold earrings, circular concave pattern, a pink stone in centre of each ; three broken pieces of gold eardrops (one a vine-leaf); two plain gold wedding-riDgs ; a plain gold keeper; two plain gold lockets, one oval, the other horse-shoe pattern; a small gold

necklet; a silver pencil; six farthings, four half-farthings ; and a new white silk handkerchief with flowered border: value, £4 ss. Bd.

Auckland. —William G. Emery, commercial traveller, reports stolen from the Albert Hotel, on the 18th instant, a dark-brown cloth overcoat, nearly new, slop - made, with brown-silk facings, brown lining, and velvet collar recently put on to match the cloth ; valuo, £3.

Ohingaiti. —Jens Martimus Christensen and McGregor Thomson report stolen from their dwelling, on the 27th or 28th ultimo, a red- and black-striped rug, three grey blankets, a pair of grey-moleskin trousers, a dark waterproof coat with leather button-holes, a dark pilot-cloth coat and vest, and two pairs Scotch-plaid trousers, size 7; all partly worn ; value, £7 ss.

Hawera. —William H. Roberts, railway inspector, reports stolen from the Railway Hotel, on the Ist instant, a gold albert chain, round links, one long and three small alternately, each stamped “ 18c,” gold - mounted compass with bloodstone attached; a gold signet-ring with monogram WHR ; two sovereigns and one half-sovereign, Jubilee coinage; an old five-shilling piece, well preserved; four shillings and a sixpence of the year 1716 ; and a small gold shirt-stud with blue stone in centre : value, about £l6. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was staying in the hotel, and left for the South on the following day. Description : About twenty-three years of age, about sft. 7in. high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, blotched and pimpled face, rather large nose, large hands; dressed in a light-tweed suit, wide trousers, and hard black-felt hat.

Waimate (Timaru). —John Merry reports that on the 31st ultimo or Ist instant his dwelling in Naylor Street was broken into, and the following stolen : Two pairs of white double and eight single blankets, all having yellow and red stripes and red binding at the ends; five white pillow-strips with frills ; a ladies’ black-silk cloak, back and front trimmed with silk plush ; a red-and-black hearth-rug, with yellow fringe ; 2£ yards of blue skirting; two white counterpanes; a flute; and five white-twill bed-sheets: value, about £l4.

Dunedin. —Mary Joyce, shopkeeper, King Street, reports that, between the 28th ultimo and 2nd instant, her dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: A white double blanket, two white single blankets, a white quilt, a red-serge table-cover, and 21b. of tea ; value, £3.

Wellington. —Michael Joseph Mulligan, watchmaker, Wellington Terrace, reports stolen from him on the 21st ultimo a ladies’ gold Waltham open-faced watch, No. 178693; and a gentlemen’s gold albert, long links: value, £2O.
