Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

Mongonui. —John Anton Subritzky, Awanui North, reports stolen, about the 20th May, 1893, a dark-brown gelding, aged, 15 hands high, star on forehead, branded V on one shoulder; value, £5.

Te Awamutu. —Robert Austin, Maungatautari, reports stolen, on the 26th January last, a bay mare, aged, about 16 hands high, branded J on near shoulder, blemish on off forefoot where trod on, a few white hairs on forehead, off hindfoot white ; value, £l2 12s.

Patea. —James Ball, Kalcaramea, reports stolen from a paddock, between about the sth and 19th ultimo, one hundred and eighty breeding ewes, and five rams, branded JB (conjoined) over a bar, half-circle out of each ear; value, £IOO.

Christchurch. William George Hillier, blacksmith, Belfast, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 4th ultimo, a mare, value £l6. It was sold on the following day at the Rangiora Yards by a man who gave his name as W. Andrews. Description: Twenty to twenty-two years of age, sft. 7in. high, slight build, dark complexion; dressed in a dark saddle-tweed suit, and wideawake felt hat; horsey appearance. Can be identified. No warrant.

Little River. —George Kay, Hill Top, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 15th March last and 2nd ultimo, 170 hoggets, mixed sexes, recently branded with K under a bar in blue on backs, back bit out of left ears, and some having one, others two front hits out of right ears ; also, a few aged ewes with various ear-marks ; value, 6s. 3d. each.

Culverden. —William Hale Burton, Black Hills, Hurinui, reports stolen, between December, 1894, and 26th March, 1895, 150 cross-bred lambs, branded “| “| in black on near or off side, tips cut off ears and triangular hole in same ears; value ss. each.

Hampden (Oamaru). —Theft of Thomas McAulay’s two steers: Andrew Aitcheson and Thomas Murcott have been arrested for this offence by Constable W. Joyce, Hampden police. One of the steers has been recovered, the other (roan-coloured) not yet traced.
