Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.
Auckland. —Basil Hewitt, Ngaruawahia, reports stolen from the Auckland Railway-station, on the 11th instant, a light-brown Gladstone bag, marked BDH, containing a greytweed coat and vest, made by Westolg and Co., Strand, London; a pair of white-flannel trousers, pair of cotton ditto, a white-cotton coat, pair of tan-boots, pair of slippers, a suit of pyjamas, red-leather writing-case, four small brooches in a cardboard box; a pair of opera-glasses, makers Negretti and Zambra; ties, gloves, &c.value, £ls.
Onehunga. The Onehunga Woollen Company report stolen from their factory, during the night of the Gth instant, a cutting of ten and a half reversible rugs, greasy and unfinished, pattern a black ground with grey and yellow crossed stripes, about lin. wide, on one side, and white and grey diamonds, with red and black bars, about £in. wide, on the other side ; value, £l2 10s.
Gisborne. —Philip Winfred Lange, Kaiti, reports stolen from a shed, on the 10th or 11th instant, a gentlemen’s saddle, colonial made, both knee-pads and stuffing on offside close to the seat have been patched, stirrup-leathers spliced near the centre, iron stirrups ; value, £3. Suspicion attached to Donald Ross, colonial, twenty-two years of age, about sft. Bin. high, medium build, fair hair, small moustache only. Well known in the district.
Opunake. Walter Read reports stolen from a shed, during the night of the Ist instant, an old bullock-hide saddle, left knee-pad torn, leather girth, old rusty irons; and an old single-reined bridle with nickel-plated bit: value, £l.
Methven. —James Henry Stone, storekeeper, reports that on the 30th or 31st ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : A dark-tweed sac suit, size 7; two darkcheck tweed sac suits, size 5; two black-worsted coats and vests, sizes 5 and 6; two pairs of dark-blue moleskin trousers, two blue-duck jackets, three pairs of grey saddletweed trousers, two pairs of brownish-tweed trousers and vests; a silver lever hunting-watch, No. 7522; two nickel watches (one secondhand, with “ W. Goring ” scratched on case); a Manhattan watch ; and some tobacco, cigarettes, &c. : total value, £22 14s. Gd. Suspicion is attached to Joseph Clarkson (alias Kelly), Richard Deelan Mulcahy, and two men, names unknown. Clarkson is a native of Tasmania, a labourer, thirty-two years of age, sft. 9in. high, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, large nose (see Police Gazette, 1892, page 20). Mulcahy, Irish, a labourer, thirty-three years of age, sft. B|in. high, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, largo nose (see Police Gazette, 1893, page 189). One of the men unknown is supposed identical with Thomas Keating, wanted for default of fine (vide Police Gazette, 1894, page 70); and the other is twenty-four or twenty-five years of age, sft. 4in. or sin. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, black moustache only. Mulcahy has gone to Ashburton, and the others, who are working near Methven, are believed to have hidden the property, intending to take it away after harvesting.
(See Police Gazette, 1895, page 3.) Christchurch. —Miss Nellie Hibbert’s watch and chain have been found on board the s.s. “ Penguin.”
“ Wakatipu,” s.s. (Lyttelton). —James Hall, steward, reports stolen from his cabin, on the 9th or 10th instant, a gold scarf-pin, set with a white stone; two cream-coloured flowered silk handkerchiefs, one may be stamped “Hall”; two linen ditto, one marked “ James Hall ” ; four silk neckties, one blue-corded, the others cream-coloured ; a dark-blue satin bow, with white spots ; a small scent-bottle ; and about £1 9s. in silver : total value, £3.

Rakaia.— Richard Daniels, alias Drew, charged on warrant with stealing fat, the property of Richard David Petrie, has been arrested by Chief Detective M. O’Connor, Dunedin police, and remanded to Rakaia.
Dunedin. —Culberth Warburton, watchmaker, Kensington, reports that on the Gth or 7th instant his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : A silver Geneva huntingwatch, No. 1946, CW scratched on outside of case, value £2 10s.; and three small metal compasses, Maltese cross shape, value, 7s. Gd.
Dunedin. —John William Roberts, North-east Valley, reports stolen from his store, between the 28th ultimo and sth instant, about 151 b. of Harlequin tobacco, value £4 ; and 17s. 2d. in silver and coppers.
Dunedin. —James Alexander Young, engraver, St. Clair, reports stolen from the Public Baths, Ravensbourne, on the 9th or 10th instant, a gold collar-stud ; a gold breast ditto, with rosette and leaf engraved thereon ; and a pair of gold sleeve-links, dumb-bell and ball pattern; value £1 10s.
Tapanui.—A man, name unknown, is charged with having, on the sth or Gth instant, stolen from Jacob Bellamy’s stable a waterproof overcoat, value £2, since recovered. Offender is supposed Irish, a labourer, thirty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, stout build, rather full face, brown hair and moustache, small growth on chin ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, and lighttweed hat. He sold the coat at Waipahi on the last abovementioned date, and said he had walked from Gore cn route for Dunedin.
Westport. Manson E. Gardner, Charleston, reports stolen from a store at Westport, between the 24tli and 28th ultimo, a box, marked GS over C, containing about 231 b. of tobacco; value, £6.
