Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

(See Police Gazette, 1894, page 157.) Culverden. —Stealing John Rogers’s cob: Henry James is charged on warrant with this offence. Description : English or colonial, twenty-six to thirty years of age, sft. sin. or 6in. high, slight build, fair hair, small moustache and whiskers, clear complexion, prominent Roman nose; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, and large soft brown-felt hat; had the appearance of a shoemaker or saddler; carried a small bag-swag, and blue blanket. Offender sold the animal, on the 23rd ultimo, to James Johnston, at Clarence Bridge, and left there on the same day, saying he was going to Lyttelton by steamer from Kaikoura. He is further charged with the theft of a saddle and bridle (recovered) from E. Idle’s Jollie’s Pass Hotel, on the 17th ultimo.

Christchurch. George Talbot, Opawa, reports stolen from Diamond Harbour,near Lyttelton, between the Ist and 30th ultimo, two four-toothed wethers, one having six legs, the other only three ; both have been branded with a diamond in red paint, but may now be indistinct: value, £l2. May have been shipped to some of the neighbouring colonies for exhibition.

Wyndhaji.— William Miller, labourer, Edendale, reports stolen, during the night of the 21st instant, a dark-brown gelding, hack breed, six years old, about 17 hands high, near hind fetlock white, small bit of white on face, shod all round ; had on a cover : value, £2O.

Woodville.— George Rabone reports stolen, about the 12th May last, a bay pony (gelding), four years old, about fourteen hands high, branded on neck, banged tail when last seen, dark streak down back, very clean legs ; value, £2O.

Woodville. — William Elliott reports stolen from a paddock at Maharahara, about the 12th instant, twenty mixed ewes and wethers, hoggets ear-marked with slit in point of right ear, ewes back and front bit out of right ear-tip, and a little of front cut out, and front bit out of left ear.
