Deserters from Her Majesty's Service.
From H.M.S. “ Rapid,” at Auckland. On 4th October, 1894. Joseph Cant, A. 8., English, twenty-three years of age, sft. 4£in. high, brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, nose bent to the left. Had a considerable amount of mess-money with him.
On 14th October, 1894
Charles J. Walker, A. 8., a native of Plymouth, England, twenty-one years of age, sft. 4in. high, dark hair and complexion, hazel eyes, scar on right shin.
A reward of £3 is offered for the arrest of each, in addition ;o £5 from the Colonial Government.
From H.M.S. "Royalist,” at Auckland On 26th October, 1894.
Albert James Farr, A. 8., English, twenty-three years of age, sft. 7in. high, light-brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, spot tattooed on back of left hand. This man was arrested on the 15th instant by Constable M. O’Brien, Helensville police, for deserting from the “ Wallaroo ” (see Police Gazette, 1894, page 119), was put on board the “ Royalist,” and has again deserted. No reward is now offered for his arrest.
From H.M.S. “ Mildura,” at Sydney. On 2nd October, 1894. Arthur Layhe, ordinary seaman, born at Rainhill, Lancashire, twenty years of age, sft. 7in. high, light-brown hair, light-blue eyes, fresh complexion. £3 reward for arrest.
From H.M.S. “ Orlando,” at Sydney. On 4th October, 1894. Frederick James Brice, private, Royal Marines, twenty' two years of age, sft. lOJin. high, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes, sallow complexion. £3 reward for arrest.
From H.M.S. “ Katoomba,” at Port Adelaide. On 3rd October, 1894. Wilfred Clarence Gray Rothschild, A. 8., twentytwo years of age, born at Detroit, U.S.A., sft. s|in. high, light hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, scar over right eye. A reward not exceeding £3 is offered for his arrest.
(See Police Gazette, 1894, page 157.) Thomas Edward Elliott, deserter from “ Mildura,” at Sydney, has been arrested by the Launceston (Tasmania) police.
